Can i buy two single RAM to have dual RAM

Go to solution Solved by Zando_,

If they run at the same speeds and timings and you put them in alternate slots, yeah.

Hello i feel like this is a very stupid question but i wanna know if i buy two separate single RAM that have the same model number and frequency and use them as dual ram, will they work as dual or as single?

A majority of the time, yes.

Occasionally, no.

The odds are in your favor though that it will work if buying a 2pk isn't an option for you.

You can't find a 2x kit?

I assume the OP had a single stick cause of budget reasons and now wants to get a second stick as an upgrade (was a common practice a few months ago when DDR4 prices were wack).

If you've buying new, just getting a 2x kit is better because they're guaranteed to work together.

Makes sense.  Just wanted to make sure he didn't stop searching too soon if he was buying both sticks new.

You want at least 3200Mhz CL16, preferably 3200Mhz CL14 or 3200Mhz CL16 RAM for Zen 2. You'd be better off getting a new 2x8GB kit and selling the single stick to get some mons back.

Yep! Sell it sooner than later so you can get something from it, maybe 75 or 80 percent of its real value... ??
