When not even the forum posts say what the video is about

 

Come on guys, at least say what's "the first" for gaming monitors.

This video is 450 seconds long, and shows roughly 40 seconds of the monitor in action, rounded up. including them changing settings and showing its I/O and flexible articulation. That is less, or maybe about the same time they used for their sponsor calls, merchandise ad and subscription tease.

 

Maybe I forgot a clip that ads another 5-10 seconds, but even then it is quite lousy disappointing.

 

I appreciate the explanations about back light strobing, motion blur reduction and variable refreshrate but this could have been done without that monitor, too.

Unfortunately this monitors suffers from a few issues not noted in the LTT video, not surprising as they dont deep dive into technical testing.

 

The monitor when using its ELMB sync suffers from backlight 'cross-talk' where the strobing effect of the black frame insertion causes duplication of a moving image ,  it sounds like ghosting but it is different, where ghosting is more a blur following a moving image, this is a more crisp duplication.

 

Additionally the panel uniformity isnt great and it being IPS means IPS glow is present as well.

 

Finally the pixel response times are not exactly great. Even tftcentrals rather favorable testing methodology suggests using 60 to 80% overdrive (trace free setting) to keep response times below that required for 144hz and 155hz , but this also adds noticeable overshoot.

 

that said it does have an impressively low amount of input lag.

 

Depending on how sensitive you are to visual artifacts such as cross-talk , and how picky you are with black level uniformity , this will either be a great monitor, or not so much. None the less at least it isnt crazy expensive.

I'm in the market for a new monitor to replace my 2011 Dell U2412M.

 

I have narrowed this down to two choices.  This monitor and the ROG PG279Q.

I'm looking for a higher refresh rate and 2k res to pair with my gtx 1070.  

I was also pleased to see the pixel pitch of these monitors .233 which is better than my Dell and the reason why ive held on to the Dell for so long.  

 

I'm not thrilled about a four yo monitor still asking $600 but it checks all my boxes.   I like the price of the VG27 ($460 on amazon) and it features.   I would also like to future proof my purchase and get many years of service out of this new monitor like i did with my Dell

 

If you were me which one would you pick?

My vote goes to the PG279Q. I have the previous model PG278Q, bought used almost four yrs ago, no dead pixels or issues of any kind.
