Random PC power loss

Recommended Posts

So have had this issue for the last year with my PC where it will just randomly lose power for no reason at all. Was hoping someone would have an idea as to what it could be. It is a random power loss that causes pc to lose power.

CPU - Intel Core i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz
Graphics Card - RTX 2080 Ti
Motherboard - MSI Z170A GAMING M7
Operating System - Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
RAM - Kingston HyperX Fury 32GB (DDR4)
PSU - Corsair RMX Series RM1000X ATX Power Supply

Components replaced so far:

Graphics card - was a 980ti (Crashes still occurred, now replaced with a 2080ti)

RAM - Have completed memtest64 on all ram, tested each slot separately with single 8gb stick only - crashes still occur

OS - Completely reinstalled - still crashes

CPU - Reseated

  • All temps are fine when crashes occur, no upvoltages seen either for both CPU and GPU
  • Can occur at any point (idle, chrome, gaming, BIOS) (occur more during gaming though)
  • Not able to be reproduced with AIDA64 stress test
  • NO BSOD or screen freeze or audio freeze, doesn't generate a crash report
  • Have changed kettle lead - have tried though surge-protected extension lead and direct into mains
  • Power within the house seems fine and consistent elsewhere, have only had this issue with this specific PC.
  • When PC loses power, PC automatically turns back on without having to do anything, booting to the logon screen
  • MOBO has no power when crash occurs

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
