Looking for a laptop that hits most/all of my needs

I'm looking for a mid- to high-range laptop that can run Ableton and Musescore smoothly. I would like it to be able to run Doom and other games (my current laptop can't) for casual gaming. I absolutely need it to have accurate, if not near accurate, colors for mild photo and video editing, as well as sketching and graphic design. The refresh rate should be at least 90. I don't need to have a large display or 4k, and it shouldn't have a weird resolution/aspect ratio that warps application windows. If someone could please help me decide on the best purchase for my needs, I'd be very grateful.

I would recommend getting a laptop with a intel core i7 or higher cpu. I would also make sure it has a good dedicated graphics processor.

I'm from the US. I'd like to stay below $1'800 if possible, but am willing to work up funds if a higher price is necessary. I would like it to be lightweight, but obviously, build quality would be more of a concern. I'd like good battery life so I don't always have to have it plugged in, but I can manage with the battery life being okay.

So you're fine with lower battery life?

6 lbs (I dunno how heavy 13"-15" laptops can get) is probably my max, as I'm a commuter. My preferred minimum amount of battery life would be 3-4 hours, but yes, lower battery life is okay if/when necessary.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thank you! I will end up going with either the Y740 or the GP65. These two feel better to me both performance-wise and aesthetically. I'm glad you provided numerous options so that I can decide further between minor details. Cheers!
