Help a tech noob pick a laptop for grad school

Hi world I would appreciate any advice you can give me in this realm.

I would like a laptop that could last about 8 hours for a day of work.

Backlit keyboard is preferable.

I don't really know what I need in terms of cpu and graphics as I'm just learning about them now.

Casual games with friends but don't really care about graphics settings more about the time spent with them.

I mostly run some basic statistics software for research and some 3D modeling a few times a month.

Price wise perhaps in the $800 range.

Look at the Ryzen-based ThinkPad. I think a ThinkPad E495 would be perfect

Buying in the US.

As long as the screen is 14 inches or greater its good.

My limit for weight would be 4-5 pounds I guess.

Average GPU is fine I guess whatever that means? I've never really had a "good" gpu to feel the difference.
