Are motherboards getting expensive? Asus maximus hero z370 vs asus rog strix x570f

A year ago a z370 asus maximus hero was considered a bossman board at £220.

now for a Ryzen https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/cqsnTW/asus-rog-strix-x570-f-gaming-atx-am4-motherboard-rog-strix-x570-f-gaming

this is a ‘decent’ board I’m told at £260

so I’m asking here, compare the boards, what does this X570 have (apart from pci4 support etc, which is just new) that the hero doesn’t. Is it better quality? Etc.

or is the maximus  etter but just because it’s amd X570 chipset is just more.

Well PCIe 4.0 and its requirements adds some cost. At least right now in its first generation.

is X570 just super expensive?

Here in Russia, Gigabyte X570 Aorus Xtreme costs half a year federal minimum wage after taxes for a full-time job. One can work for 6 months, save all the money while having necessities covered by someone else, and earn enough money for X570 motherboard. That's what I call super expensive.

Canadian here. They're insanely expensive for what you get. That's why people are still grabbing B450s.

The expense is apparently because there was some difficulty in the development and manufacturing process of PCIe 4.0 which increased production costs significantly. That's the official version anyway, personally I think it's profiteering.
