Is the GTX 1060 6gb still good for 1080p gaming?

TrainFan475

I found some good deals on used GTX 1060s on ebay (e.g. a founders edition 1060 for $115 usd). Right now, Would upgrading to a 1060 6gb make any difference from using a 1050 or should I suck it up and buy a used 1070? How long will a 1060 hold up in the future?

I really can't afford anything more than $250 max right now, no no RTX cards for me.

A. Yes B. Don’t see why not, if you have the budget C. Not too much longer, but definitely better than your 1050

1060 6gb will struggle at 1080p in newer games to hold 60fps without reducing settings significantly (like metro exodus)

Personally since you have a 1050 I would want to make a more substantial upgrade so you can better perceive the difference.

If you can afford it, get a 5700. Your 2600x will thank you.

To add a different perspective to what others have already said. Yes you might have to reduce settings in some new games, but you will also be able to run the other 99 percent of games that exist just fine. It will be a pretty big upgrade from a GTX 1050. More is definitely better, but I don't actually see you needing an RX 5700 for 1080p, not to mention it would be significantly more expensive.

The 1060 is still basically twice as powerful as a 1050 with 3 times the Vram.

However if you can stretch for a used 1070, if its a good price, that would last longer.

Yes, it is great. I'm still using it and it does the job quite well. I play any games without problems. However, if you have few more dollars to spend get 1080, because it will last you longer

I'm still using a 1060 6GB and can run 99% of games at highest settings at 60fps. I don't think you will be able to push it past 60fps without making the graphics settings lower however.
