LIGISTX

I am in serious need of a raspberry pi vpn solution for my house. Sad part about this... I had OpenVPN working without issue, but about 8 months ago something somewhere updated and I can’t connect with my iPhone anymore which is 99% of my use case to view local dvr I don’t want to open to the internet). I have posted o. OpenVPN forums with 0 help ever given and mostly am in rage quit mode on that. I tried everything I could, nothing has worked. I haven’t tried to re-roll the pi vpn installer, but from what I have read on the OpenVPN forum, iPhones are basically no longer supported for whatever reason. I wasn’t the only person with seemingly the same issue.

Anyone have a solution for my use case? Really shouldn’t even be hard, just need a simple vpn I can set and forget on my pi.

As far as I can tell, OpenVPN is working, the iPhone app just won’t authenticate. That is what I have read as well on their forum. I can ssh in and get logs if required, but from my understanding, nothing “is broken”. There was a fix about a year ago, but it seems that “fix” was “fixed” and now I can’t get in at all. Lol.

I think I need to find a new client, but I don’t know what to use. I thought ovpn was sorta the best option. It was nice, while it worked... but maybe I am being overly harsh and it is an issue with my setup and not ovpn’s fault. Although, from what little reading I have done, I am not sure it’s me :/

I just tried Passepartout VPN client for ios 12. it worked perfect with the same ovpn config file with the certificate text embedded in the file instead of the reference to the cert file. One downside is it costs 2.99$ but it works so i don't mind.

Lol, I have this installed on my phone already, and I think I got it when it was free. I never tried it tho, forgot all about it!!!

What so you mean by config file embedded bs reference to the cert? How did you set this up?

In my config file i downloaded from the VPN server there was a line : ca ca.cert

I was getting errors because i couldn't import both the ovpn file and cert file from email at the same time but you can replace that line in the ovpn file with

<ca> *entire contents of cert file* </ca>

This way you only need to import one file.
