How big should a boot drive be?

Emuf

So im going to be building a new pc soon and plan to put a 240GB ssd, a 1TB hdd, and an M.2 drive in it. I dont want to spend too much on the m.2 drive because I will not be storing anything other than windows on it and I want to know know much storage I would need for a boot drive and how much that would cost me.

you don't even need one at all. Are you looking at an NVMe drive? don't get one for windows, it makes literally no difference. Just put windows on your 240GB SSD.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Ok. The old ass laptop I am using right now has windows on the 2.5" SSD and it boots in about 15 seconds which is still better than a hard drive I guess. Also im pretty sure it is running at SATA2 speeds

a long boot time might need a fresh windows install.

Damn, wish I'd posted about this before getting it. I'd gotten a 256GB Sabrent Rocket NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD for my recent Ryzen build, boot time is slow now due to some sort of issue being sorted out by AMD I guess. Also, booting to Windows from a PCIe M.2 or SSD is about the same, so yeah, a 2.5" SSD would do just fine as boot drive. Really big difference is when an SSD is used to load games, I have 2 bigger capacity SSD's, and man, games load real quickly. Heck, Metro Exodus loads before Artyom has time to finish one of his monologues.
