Looking for my very first laptop (for university)

Since I'm studying software engineering I want to get a laptop so I can get some work done on the go (mainly coding and some addittional uni work). I started looking for options at my local retailers since I live in Guatemala and getting stuff from the U.S. drives the prices way too high so I'm looking for great battery life, a light device and a good screen but if I can play games on it, that woud be awesome, so I narrowed down this into 4 potential laptops.

  • What I believe are the best when it comes to battery and screen size.
  1.  ASUS X512 (i7 8565U - 12GB of RAM) - Link for Specs
  2.  ASUS X512 (i5 8265U - 8GB of RAM) - Link for Specs

  • What I believe are the best gaming laptops I can get for the price.
  1. ASUS GL503 (i7 8750H - 16GB of RAM) - Link for Specs
  2. ASUS GL503 (i7 8750H - 8GB of RAM) -  Link for Specs

Any thoughts or experiences you've had with these laptops such as battery life, weight, screen size and quality, please leave a comment and any suggestions would be gladly appreciated. ?

Yeah not really much options around here and the other options are just really bad ones, and in the end I just have to choose between 2 models but different hardware, but I'm not entirely sure yet, so that's why I came here to get some opinions.

Have you looked at the Asus ux534ft? its pretty new, but it looks like it is going to be a great balance between portability and medium gaming.

Look at reviews and pick the one with the best battery life. In Uni, battery life is key. No one wants to be partnered with the person who forgets their charger, has their laptop die, and can't get the work done in the group.

UX534 for gaming? no its overpriced for gaming and never ever game on ultrabook unless its a gaming ultrabook.

If you really gaming and sacrifice couple battery life then gl503 might be the best. or MSI GF63 little bit weaker and 60hz panel. but they claim to have 6 hours battery

First off it has a gtx 1650 and a 4c 8thread cpu so it is more than capable of “gaming”. Games can easily be run at 1080p medium settings.

Second he wants a laptop for college, that is why I recommended this. If he wanted a pure gaming laptop then I would suggest something else. Finding outlets at the library or in class can be challenging so anything with an actual battery life of less than 6 hours isn’t for “college” it’s for entertainment.

If it doesnt thermal throttle, that is. Zenbook lineup has never been known for good thermal characteristics, and the previous UX533 with 8250U and 1050 Max-Q is already saturating the cooling system.

I wouldn’t imagine a 1650 max q would be much more demanding than a 1050ti. The only reason I recommended the Zenbook was because all the other laptops were ASUS.
