Razer Blade 15

Mobmob

Hello,

I'm looking to possibly buy a Razer Blade 15 (2018) with 16gb memory, 256 SSD, 2Tb HHD, and a gtz 1060 max-Q. It's going to cost me around $1450...

Should I go for it (considering all the problems I've been hearing like swollen batteries and other complaints)?

No, not really. Unless you plan on replacing it after 12 months or so because Blades have an average life cycle of 1-2 years at most. It's gonna be a pretty poor experience knowing Razer's awful track record of high failure rates, poor customer support, horrid internal design, electrical component choices and PCB layout. But it's your money - we can only warn you to not waste it on one of the worst laptops on the market.

I've known people who have had great experiences with razer and then some people got the short end of the reliability stick. If you're worried about reliability I would just get a warranty on the device.

The main use will be mostly college work some gaming on the side, I think I might end up going with an XPS 13” and just forget about the graphics card...

I wouldn't I just picked up a dell xps 15 for college and on the first day it crapped out. Apparently a lot of people get defective units from them. I would check out the Asus Zenbook 15" with the gtx 1650 or the msi ps63 (i think) with the 1650.

I'd look at a ZenBook Pro or ThinjPad X1 Extreme. The XPS series have become quite lackluster in recent time since the design hasn't be n updated for a very long time.

Sorry for the late reply! I live in the US, and my budget is around $1300... I'm going to be out for about 10 hours per day so battery life kinda matters to me... as for weight, the lighter the better (I posted asking about another the MSI PS14 which you also replied to)

Then gaming laptop isn't an option anymore (max is 8 hrs, while some of them have 6-7 hrs)

will throttle - normal for 13 inch Ultrabook with dGPU

So you're fine with lower end GPU?

Yeah yeah a low end dGPU is fine... I study machine learning so having a dGPU even a low end one makes all the difference...

I know it's out of topic, but any thoughts on a certified refurbished Alienware m15, 9th gen core i7, 16 gb ran and 256 SSD with RTX 2060 for $1400? my friend recommended it for me...

10 hrs is quite a stretch, fine with at least 7-8 hrs? (gaming laptop with such battery life is rare so you can forget about it)

Also, max weight in kg/lbs? Mind low sRGB display and non-upgradeable RAM?

  • 2 weeks later...

I prefer upgradable ram and storage because I’d like to upgrade in the future... 8 hours of battery isn’t as bad... I don’t really have any specific weight in mind the lighter the better but again if it’s on the heavy side, it wouldn’t be a problem. I won’t be doing and photo/video editing so I don’t really care about color accuracy.
