Looking for a laptop/ultrabook - need help, very confused

Hi,

i am looking to swap out my desktop for a laptop.

I don't game anymore, so i don't need the horsepower, i'd much rather have something smol and portable.

I would like USB-C PD charging, Thunderbolt, decent trackpad, keyboard and screen (not necessarily 4K, but good color and brightness).

Size 13 or 15 inches, atleast 256 gigs of storage. Budget max 1400 euros, used is an option.

What would you guys recommend? I have no clue about laptops.

Razer Blade or LG Gram are not available here.

Thanks for any recommendations.

The Razer is pure garbage so that's not really important.

Id say a business ultrabook would suit you well. Maybe a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon or HP EliteBook 745 G5.

If you want more style than function, Surface Laptop 2 or Asus ZenBook Pro 14

The Swift 7 has a very weak chassis and as such is easy to damage by accident or warp the board when under load. In short, bad design.

The XPS is a very dated and lackluster design with remaining heat and latency issues. I would personally avoid it

Fine with x2 PCIe lanes?

Personally I would take business grade laptops

The air overheats, has a T2 chip which kills laptops, a soldered SSD with no way to save data, the single worst laptop keyboard ever released due to the extremely high failure rates, won't work with any non apple accessory so you also have to spend 200$ on adapters and many more issues and quirks. Avoid.

Check the ThinkPad T480/T480s/T490/T490s or an L series model.

Also look at Dell Latitude devices. Generally, USB charging is rare on high end laptops because the connector itself is quite limiting and the TB3 controller can occasionally explode (it's rare but possible)

It's severely power and heat limited so expect low performance. Also customer support is bad.

Not to mention questionable QC+reliability+longevity. The model itself is decent though

Even the 13 inch is bad? The 13 inch i7 8+512 fits in my budget well.

My other options would be early 2015 MP A1708 or late 2014 MP A1502.

I like the thin and light form factor, for photo editing i don't need acer predator performance anyway.

My opinion: If you don't need macOS, don't buy Macbook. Business grade Windows laptops are much better

Think of another way - what if you got a business grade laptop without any issues and without needing to make use of the warranty, and can last for several years? Isn't it much better?

Yes, the HP model seems really nice but it doesnt have as good of a screen, which is kind of important for a primary content consumption device. 1080P, 67% sRGB 220nit screen is literally worse than my damn phone.

It also has a weakass CPU, but better GPU.

The problem is that it costs around 300 euros more than MB 13 max config or MB X Pro lowest config, it has a load of for unneccessary security features and more expensive Pro CPU, so that's probably what makes it so expensive.

If i wanted to make my own config, it would probably be even more expensive.

It depends on TDP configuration, both can be faster or slower in real world workload

I dont think you need the links, i can get all of the laptops you listed, but only some configurations.

I am looking for a lappy with Macbook Pro form factor, good screen, decent performance and atleast 256gigs of storage.

I dont need upgradeable ram, but i definitely want removable SSD.

Everything here has 2 year warranty.

You can't have a budget and then complain when a laptop is using all of it. The X390 is probably the best you'll get for 1400 euros
