MAG241C or VG271

elfishz

Is the ghosting with the VA panel really bad to the point I should spend 50 buck more for a VG271?

Will be using for occasional competitive CSGO and youtube. rTings review on the 27 inch version claims the ghosting is good.

Going from a VA 1080p60 to a TN 1080p144 and shortly after back to a VA but 1440p144, I'm really happy with my MAG27CQ and wouldn't take a TN over a VA any day. I've never had a chance to sit in front of a high refresh IPS panel though.

Not sure where you're buying from but the MAG27CQ and refreshed MAG271CQR can go for $280-300 and at 27" curved 1440p144 is pretty nice spot. Microcenter always has them on sale if that's an option for you.

I don't think I'd buy curved at 24" though and I wouldn't buy 27" at 1080p unless you plan to sit far enough from it.

Acer has a 1440p version for 50 more, but my GTX 980 probably will choke. I wonder how different 1440p scaled down to 1080p on a same screen size as a regular 1080p panel looks. If there is no difference, I might buy the 1440 IPS one

Depending on the game you should be able to get away with it just fine, if you're not playing the latest AAA games it really wouldn't matter. I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you're not planning to upgrade from the GTX 980 for a few more years. There are some games out there which handle vram very poorly or just require quite a bit just because of the assets in the game, they aren't the majority though.

I tried to justify 1440p since I'm cpu limited by my X5675 with a GTX 1080, I haven't came across anything at 1440p which runs subpar but that's not very helpful to you. I've always refused to downscale resolution in the past but it's not nearly as bad as say using 480p/720p on a 1080p screen.
