We do have these and they have been around for years now. I’m not sure why people don’t know about them

If I recall those Lithium non rechargeable batteries are not meant to be used as higher capacity batteries. They are meant for things that need their batteries voltage to remain high.


For those who dont know: Yes, as a standard AA battery gets used, its voltage goes down, till the voltage is too low for the device to use and thats usually when we decide they are 'dead'. Back in the day some digital cameras used AA batteries and they would eat right though them. - Or so you would think. Standard batteries would quickly drop in voltage below what the camera required (Things like the flash want "high" voltage), but the batteries a camera called "dead" could easily be put into a Gameboy or a TV remote and power them like they were only used half used.

Those Lithium batteries on the other hand lasted much longer in cameras because they maintained their higher voltage, even at lower charges. If you put them into a Gameboy or a TV remote, they lasted practically just as long.

Is wasteful of Lithium? Oh heck yeah.

 

Now, I don't understand one thing... Why do we need USB ports on the battery it's self? You can only charge 1 battery per USB cable at a time and most devices want 2 batteries... I usually don't carry multiple USB cables. Wouldn't it make more sense to have a USB powered recharge hub like the case for Airpods?

The rechargeable AA batteries I bought have a wall wart that lets me recharge 2 or 4 batteries at a time. If I could only recharge 1 at a time, I honestly don't think I would have bought or used it.

To me these seem pointless. I bet the whole operation will fail very quickly. Why invent new technology, added electronics in every batter to fail when we have perfectly good battery technology already in those sizes.

 

What would be far better is the devices to change, not the batteries. Take camera flashes for example, the change required for them to go from 4 AA cells to 2 18650s or similar is minor, in many cases just an adjustment to the plastic housing. We need to move away from the old battery sizes and voltages rather than trying to shoehorn new tech into old boxes.

The upgrade will be slow and take time. My point is, why are companies not embracing LI-ION etc on devices that have interchangeable batteries? We will not have to replace our kit just because companies make the move in new products. 

 

We have eneloop batteries and their equivalents already, they all come out of one factory in Japan owned by Fujitsu. The products are superb and provide the voltages that are required for the current devices, 1.5v ish per cell. Lithium base batteries provide 3.6v ish per cell. The technology is different. To use those 3.6v cells at 1.5v is wasteful and introduces new points of failure. If you want less reliable cells that cost more then fine.

Give me eneloops or give me death. I have no desire to charge one fucking battery at a time, when I have the ability to charge 4 high quality NIMH batteries that will work just as well as these rechargeable lithiums.

I know they "exist" but they're always weird products like this from some company you've never heard of.  Reminds me of other weird stuff you could do but no one does, like that card which takes 10 microSD cards and puts them in raid to form a DIY SSD and other such stuff.  They're not mainstream which is my point.
