Differences MSI Gaming Trio vs Gaming X Trio

ThatFrizie

Hello everyone,

I was looking into some videocards and I was wondering.

What are the differences between MSI's Gaming X Trio and the non X.

The reason I ask this is because I saw a the Gaming Trio 2080 for just 670 euros compared to the 800 or so for the Gaming X Trio.

The only difference I saw was clock speeds, would this make a big difference? And also would it be worth to get a good 2070 Super instead for 650 instead of the Gaming Trio 2080 for 670 euros?

Thanks for taking the time to have a look through and any help would be appreciated.

PC specs:

MSI Gaming Trio RTX 2080

I'd go for the 670 euros Gaming Trio 2080... it will be slightly faster than the 2070 Super with a pretty decent cooler, I'll be honest I don't know what is the difference between the X and non X but no way a RTX 2080 is worth 800 euros when the Founders Edition 2080 Super is 699 euros.

Probably. The 2080 looks to be only a hair faster than the 2070S. This could go either way honestly. They look to be almost the same card. The 2080 has a good cooler.

The RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio is clocked at 1860 MHz and the non-X at 1710, would this be any significant difference and would I possibly get a more limited chip with the non-X as I want overclock anyway.

Factory overclock makes no difference what so ever nowadays due to GPU Boost 4.0

Both cards should clock past 1860mhz if cooling is adequate.

For the love of someone's God please help me.

So the NON "X" card is what I want?

I want to buy the best 2080 ti possible.

Came down to MSI, but then this happened,...

I almost ordered the "X" and then realized 8gb VRAM instead of 11gb.

So if I'm going to OC. the card myself then I would want the NON "X" right?

Having some factory OC. on ur card doesn't help it to OC. any higher urself does it?

I can still hit as high of an OC. with the "X" or NON "X" it would literally be no difference!?

If I bought the "X" I would just be ripping myself off on top of losing 3gb of VRAM!?

Please someone clear me up if possible

Chuter.

PS. This is my first post on these forums. I just registered and Linus I love you! (No gay.)

You don't need 11GB VRAM for gaming, the 8GB of the 2070 Super is plenty. The 2070 Super is for arguments sake identical to the 2080. You should 100% buy the 2070 Super unless you use the GPU for rendering, or compute work, where 11GB VRAM may actually matter.

Brands I wholeheartedly reccomend (though do have flawed products): Apple, Razer, Corsair, Asus, Gigabyte, bequiet!, Noctua, Fractal, GSkill (RAM only)

I am buying a 2080 ti no matter what.

I just need to know if I would be screwing myself by buying the "X" when I plan to manually OC. %100 of the time myself.

I know 8gb. of VRAM is plenty so if the factory OC. does nothing for me since I will manually OC. then there is NO point of paying more just to lose out on 3gb of VRAM is this correct or?

Will the "X" card OC. higher manually or both would be the same result on a manual OC.?

Isn't the factory OC. gonna be completely useless for me anyway if I manually OC. the card myself anyway?

When I wrote that I thought you were the OP, my apoligies.

The X variant is a higher binned GPU, the likelihood of overclocking higher is more likely, with that being said if the price difference is anything more than $40 or $50 I wouldn't bother. If you wan't the best overclocking 2080Ti's you have basically 3 options:

Galax Hall of Fame

MSI Lightning Z

EVGA K1ngpin

These are the highest binned 2080Ti's, other than the severely power limited Founders Edition (Do not buy)

Yeah sorry I hijacked the thread after finding it on a Google search and had meant to register here looooong ago when I first subscribed on YouTube and I figured this was better than starting a whole new topic about the same thing,...

Galax is not available in Canada. Not sold by any retailers here and I would end up paying a fortune for ordering it outside my country and paying extra duty and taxes if I could even find a price for it,...

The other two are never in stock in Canada and when they are they are priced at $1900-2000+ without tax. (Which after doing some quick research is about right lol WTF!?)

For the MSI Gaming X with tax I would be paying $3-400 Cad. less and they are already considered a top 2080 ti card.

The "X" version here is $55 more but I think I should go with the non "X" now at this point.

I am pretty sure both have the same potential for OC. and even if the factory OC. helps I am sure it is very minimal,... rather have the 11gb VRAM instead just in case.

My options are:

MSI Gaming Trio Vs. Gigabyte Aorus XTREME (Which now I can't find in Canada at all at any price FML.)

I mean I would like to get my hands on a Lightning Z but is that card really worth $3-400 more than the ones we are discussing!? (Reading up on it and watching videos now.)

It's definitely labeled as the best 2080 ti on the internet especially for OC'ing,...

Thanks again.

Also sorry to double post but this topic starts off saying the "X" version only has 8gb. of VRAM and it was even brought up again since I posted but Newegg and MSI show it having 11gb. and I am trying to confirm with them now and if that's the case my posts are wasted I would simply buy the MSI Gaming X Trio obviously.

Or did I misunderstand something here,...?

Thanks for any replies and advance to this post or my previous ones.

Rob/Chuter

EDIT: I noticed in the second MSI link that there is a "V2" in the address. Maybe there was a second version of this card was made since the topic was started?

Noticed V2 in link.
