LTT Official Folding Month 2019!!!

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

Alright guys, the time for locking this thread has come, can you all please use the Folding Community Board for all further talk.

Thank you all again for participating in the event.

Once the sheet is cleaned up I will edit this post to add the link to the spreadsheet.

@TVwazhere Can you please lock this thread for me.

I've read this on F@H website: The bonus is applied for users who use a passkey, have successfully returned at least 10 bonus-eligible WUs, have successfully returned 80% or more of assigned WUs, and returned the unit before its Timeout (formerly Preferred Deadline). Bonus points do not apply to partial returns.

When I am trying to overclock the GPU and WU fails (due to unstable OC) do they count as unsuccessfully returned and can too many failed WUs affect my QRB?

A crash does indeed return as a failed WU.  That being said, a few crashes while tuning isn't going to matter for more than a day or two at the rate graphics cards process WUs.

Can you just delete the folding slot and remake it?

I let it sit for a while to see if it was going to sort itself out.  It never did so I just stopped the service, deleted the /var/lib/fahclient/work folder, then restarted the service.  It recreated the folder and requested a different work unit and took off working just fine.

So I guess I shouldn't be testing my GPU stability with WUs... Should've known this. I probably have 50-100 failed ones in the last month (was testing 2 GPUs to get maximum out of them). ?

To maintain or reearn qrb you must return an average of 4 successful workunits to every one failed. so if you have 400 successful ones already you wont be penalized

Use fahbench to treat stability

i didn't even know that was a thing, i usually run valley benchmark on a single scene for 3-4 hours to make sure mine are ok

Game benchmarks aren't the best option to test for compute workloads. These compute workloads hit the gpu much harder and sustain that load for a long time, this will cause the gpu get hotter than in gaming.

Also these WUs have some tolerance for errors but that isn't much and you will lose all the progress you made. Overclocking for last few % of power may end up you losing a lot more.

^^^ I usually run stock settings for compute stuff, stability > that little bit of extra speed in this case. I actually find my Radeon VII gets hotter in games though, under folding load it sits at 35C GPU/58-60C hotspot (mine is on water).

Also here's my stats so far, have only been folding a couple days because @Den-Fi has decreed that I must fold on all the things (I currently have an RVII, 1660 Ti, and 1050 Ti folding):

Weekly, once I've actually done a full week or two it will be interesting to see if it evens out, may still jump depending on how much I actually game on my PC (have to stop folding on the main rig when I do that):

@Zando Bob Radeon VII has memory integrated to the GPU die and to my observation is that F@H goes easy on memory. My GTX 1070 shows only 8% load on memory controller and 170mb memory in use. This might help with the temps on cards with HMB2 but I am just guessing here.

Yeah, folding projects are held in system memory and then the data is loaded into cache in the GPU as needed afaik

That'd probs be it, since the HBM2 and GPU itself are all in the same spot on the GPU. I've never done a temp comparision between my 1660 Ti when gaming vs folding so I can't see how GDDR cards behave (and I'm on a custom loop now so I can't just swap it in).

This them leads me to wonder how much if at all system memory speed affects folding production, does running a 2080ti with dd3-800 vs say ddr4-3600

There is this but ther are issues with it as @Gorgon  points out on a regular basis.
