LTT Official Folding Month 2019!!!

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

Alright guys, the time for locking this thread has come, can you all please use the Folding Community Board for all further talk.

Thank you all again for participating in the event.

Once the sheet is cleaned up I will edit this post to add the link to the spreadsheet.

@TVwazhere Can you please lock this thread for me.

Some people just have expensive electricity.  Ours is expensive as far as the US goes, but for me the difference in re-tasking something to have full load is much smaller than somebody bringing up rigs that normally sat dormant, so my price increase isn't drastic.

I am currently running three VMs on GCP.

First one is 2xV100 with high CPU.

Second one is same 2xV100 but a li'l better CPU(wanted to see if there would be any difference in PPD).

And third one is 4xP100. ?

Tho, they are all burning through free credit pretty fast but by my calculation, they will last a li'l bit longer than the event.

Also, I gotta hit that top10 for this event. ??

What kinda ppd output do those V100's have? What are the clocks running at and what power state are they in?

Yeah, I know, I've made alarms for every VM expected to hit 0 free credit.

Also, I've already went over the free credit a few times... But it is not that high. Gonna have to pay around 20-30$.

You are asking too much mate... I am not that good with Ubuntu. However, expected PPD for 2 of V100 is reported as 4,778,139. So around 2.35M would be one V100. I have no idea where to check clocks nor GPU fan speed as it is not reported in "nvidia-smi" command. They are in P0 state as far as I know. Pulling around 200W per each V100.

Everyone here is so hyped somehow yet here i am with my measly 2m points overall. Been lurking and not really looking at the forum, just folding here and there, except recently since i got my new Ryzen Board, CPU and stuff. Everything except the RX580 has been changed. But i still don't know if i should turn on the CPU folding. Since i got my rig i have been in gamer mode, as im sure you would understand, as i upgraded from an FX CPU. Anyways, hope we get even more people next year.

I was getting way less,  running 1 v100. Think around 1.5-6m ppd.

I am just quoting what "FAHClient --send-command ppd" command reports to me. I am not really sure about exact numbers as I am using way too many systems currently so I cannot check exact numbers from EOC for example. I might do the calculations after the event so we have exact numbers for next year.

you know you're not getting the full benefit of that card on medium setting right?

cpu folding really isn't worthwhile unless you're really prepared to pay the heat and power penalty for a very small increase in PPD output. cpu folding is only really worthwhile if you're on some kind of server grade thread monster and at that point you've paid 20k or so for it.

I really didn't want to stress my card much and i didn't notice much of a difference in stuff while i was still using my FX rig so i completely forgot about it.

Oh I never ran that command on GCP. Just judging by my daily ppd on EoC.

2*1080 and 1*2070 was getting around 2.6-8m mark if I remember correctly

Well, I would love to judge based on EOC, but I am currently running:

2x1080Ti, 1070, RX 580, R9 380x, 3xGCP(soon to be forth) but in total of 4xV100(adding 4 more V100 in 4th VM) and 4xP100 and finally 2x1080(on cherry).

So my PPD kinda fluctuates a lot right now...

My RX 580 (4GB, stock) gets around 300K PPD (sometimes a little lower, often more around 325K PPD).

My R7 1700 (stock) in comparison has 40-65k PPD :D

(Which gets beaten by my mobile gtx 1050, which I decided to have good in the last couple days).

@Favebook You should be able to run "nvidia-smi -q -d CLOCK" and it'll show you a list of clock speeds. The top one should be listed as current clocks.

Thanks for that. I will try it as soon as I turn on the laptop again (currently in hospital so I cannot use it that much and I am away from my main machine which is good for PPD I guess, but I miss it ?).

And with what command would I be able to change clocks? And should I even try overclocking them? As I am not sure how I would check instability, since I only use "tail" command to check last few lines of logs.

Happened to me as well on one account. But it happened only after I added same credit card to three accounts in same day. Learned my lesson and started making pauses with GCP account creation and shuffled a few different credit cards.

Also making different accounts under same name could have caused that as well, so try to avoid doing that.

Of course I make it all the way through folding month, only to finally be stuck by the download (and upload???) bug in the final stretch.  One machine stuck downloading a WU, the other seems to get stuck on "send" for about every second or third WU it completes.  Guess I'm lucky to have made it this far without any issues.

I can try that, but I think it's the card number google doesn't like. That is unfortunate, since I can only use the one card for this.

HiPer V500 550W max PSU

btw I checked CoolerMaster's website for PSUs and it might be the same as the V550 they have, albeit the CM one has probably a redesigned exterior. Maybe they were the OEMs for this PSU. If so, 7.5 years is good for a psu with warranty of 3 years (or was it 5?).

Might disassemble it and swap the fan, that is the part that surely is dad. Perhaps it will work after it has a proper fan.

Oh and add my nerves, the nvidia boost algorithm will make me go crazy some day.

I get buildzoid's complaints now...

1530 is indeed what it is running at. Seems like that is the max clocks of that card. I know when I setup my Titan V it would stay at a lower power level unless I specifically told it to run faster.

I've tried different names and such, but I think it's flagged the card number.

I can try that, but I think it's the card number google doesn't like. That is unfortunate, since I can only use the one card for this.

I use something like Privacy.com to make a virtual credit card. You can keep making new numbers and you can also set limits. That way if you accidentally go over on the GCP free credit you'll be limited with how much they charge.
