LTT Official Folding Month 2019!!!

Alright guys, the time for locking this thread has come, can you all please use the Folding Community Board for all further talk.

Thank you all again for participating in the event.

Once the sheet is cleaned up I will edit this post to add the link to the spreadsheet.

@TVwazhere Can you please lock this thread for me.

Recommended Posts

Folding month just had to start right when I had a warm spell and my rig isn't helping. You'd think only 1 gpu and cpu wouldn't heat up a room by much...

Render first, questions later, regrets possible.

Try 1.5kw of folding power...

Rip me during summer folding sprint next year, got 42C last year...

Would have to pipe it into the central heating which user water and radiators... THINK OF THE OCs!

like 15kw of heat dissipation potential.... But when the heat is on in the winter things could get dicey...

One of the HVAC guys at work owes me a few favours and I've been thinking as most of my rigs are right beside the return air duct for the furnace

The return air would be optimal because you wouldn't have to worry about the extra heat  produced when you have to run the heat.  It always draws in cold or cooler air. . . I wan't to see picture keep us posted 😶

Man you guys are KILLING IT PPD wise, I'm currently #14 in the event but everyone ranks #15-20 produced more points than me Day 4, so I might be dropping to outside top 20 in the coming days. The competitive side of me wants to throw more GPU's at the problem but I have no more PCI'E slots / available PSU plugs to power them from. I'd have to be like @Gorgon and build an ITNOS2 or something.............

🤔

I discovered an interesting fact - You can run a 1060 in the PCIe2x4 ChipSet slot on a b450 with little discernible loss in PPD.

And I only built 1 new folding system for this event, but I also built youngest kid a new Gaming system that is just being "stress-tested" until mid November when the interim report cards come in which will determine whether they get a display upgrade to match.

I imagine if you need to punish the youngest, their system becomes an extra bump in PPD.

If they're bad let them have the system but use the GPU for Folding so they can't game...

Yes. Less thinking more doing.

Well guys, I'm up to 2 GPUs on the new rig. Unfortunately it looks like I'm gonna have to do some testing once this month is over, either the wall power in my room is shit (wouldn't surprise me) or my Asus Strix 1080 got rekt while sitting in the box for 10 months (logical...?). Either way, that gets my 2070 Super in the mix so I'm overall happier than an hour ago lol.

Apparently the requirements are to save this as a batch file and run it from startup in Windows

Note, it assumes

  1. windows is configured to automatically start and login as a user _WITHOUT_ a password
  2. The FAHclient is set to run at start without being paused

It _MIGHT_ work for single GPU systems but I doubt it would work for dual GPU systems as it checks if FahCore_2?.exe is running and, if not, reboots. For dual-GPU systems under normal operation there should be two instances of this.

Also, the script might issue a reboot in error if a download is slow but could complete in the fire minute interval.

I don't think you actually need their help here.  All you need to do is use flexible tubing to one of the big quad 200 radiators, or whatever covers up the return duct.  Have a simple frame to hold the rad(s) that latches to the duct.  Once you're not heating anymore, you'll still need the airflow, so being able to move the rad to exhaust out a window with a similar mount for your rad frame would then make everything easy.

They have worked on the script since, as it seems that can tell it to restart the slot first
