I have a feeling that most people will hit a high today as the stat servers were down for 6 hours last night and applied the points early this morning.

No, with the 500GB ESDI drives back in those days a hard power cycle would result in a 2-hour consistency check having to run and if you found errors you had to go in with a hex editor and edit sector tables and stuff to get things working again.

I don't miss those days.

Sounds like Windows 95 to me, not like windows 98 was much better... I remember both systems taking anywhere from 1-6 hours just to check itself, more junk/drives = longer a lot longer :|

Luckily I don't do anything remotely close to tier one support these days (except at home, and boy the SLA here is brutal). Back in the day we'd just had a note we stuck on the door saying:

"Yes, the server is down

Yes, were working on it

No, we don't know when it will be back up

Asking us when we think it will be back up will slow down when it gets back up.

We will send a Broadcast out when it is back up and available"

Most clients didn't have eMail back then

I miss those days, luckily I never have had to do tech support but I loved the tech guys esp when the office people started getting them mad about the downtime. But the reason for the brutal SLA is because it has become more competitive.

Edit: sorry busy weekend :| Got a shiny MewTwo however ?

Was it fair to single out @leadeater for the QRB thing? I'd imagine that there are quite a few people who got a boost from that for that update, so to remove it form him only seems a bit unfair. IMO it seems like it would be more to fair to just remove that update from everyone's total (if that is possible of course).

If I did my math right:

Our team got ~284m points after the server fix in one update. We produced ~55m points in updates before and after the fix. So with four updates our production should be ~220m points. So with rough math we got ~64m points from the QRB fix as a team. leadeater alone got ~ 43m points and there is another user in our team that got ~18m points, he hasn't folded for weeks. So these two users got ~61m points of the ~64m points, so the rest of us got something but it might be impossible to tell that from the normal fluctuations of PPD

I am convinced that the best way to get my computer to fold well is to just close everything and leave it alone....I'm like that parent that's finally decided i can send my kid to the park by itself instead of sitting there watching it play...or something idk

Event wise sure, I wasn't folding at all ages before the event, started half way through the first day at between 600k-800k PPD then got awarded 43mil points, that isn't exactly fair for a month folding event.

It should be possible to just ignore that stats update altogether, not sure how globally fair that is but from what I could tell no one had such an outlier in points like I did.

Edit:

Plus I asked for them to be removed so there is that ?

Nice detective skills ?. I don't think 3m points is worth worrying about if it's spread across multiple users.

I fold year round and gained nothing from the update. So it seems to not have effected many people, with one other person gaining 16m who are not participating in the event
