LTT Official Folding Month 2019!!!

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

Alright guys, the time for locking this thread has come, can you all please use the Folding Community Board for all further talk.

Thank you all again for participating in the event.

Once the sheet is cleaned up I will edit this post to add the link to the spreadsheet.

@TVwazhere Can you please lock this thread for me.

How many of those CPUs do you have if you can get 10m PPD with them?

Ah.... I dunno I only semi count and just throw in what I can get powered and network that has been decommissioned. We just started pulling out 20-30 or so ESXi host with 2x E5-2690v4s so I'll swap out some of the older LGA1366 crap that is pretty slow now days. I've got two 4x E7-8890v4 systems, two 2x E5-4650 and I've got lots of 2x E5-2667 and 2x E5-2690 systems.

Pretty sure I can do 6-8 mil PPD but I'd really like to hit that 10mil mark.

no, because that's only a difference of 10mhz so you haven't actually gone to the next step down on the turing clock speed ladder yet

It did go to 1995 after setting 150 from 165, but  at checking back a bit later it was running at 2010 again. As 15mhz steps 150 would be 10 steps right ?

Do you rate the Define C? Good airflow?

I'm still using my original Corsair 650D, but it's so bloody big that I've been contemplating getting a new case to save some space..

@Spotty I think 10mil PPD is around 960 CPU cores..... I might have to lower my hopes heh

It's partially the reason why I didn't put my server on or my 2-1 like last year the stats don't fell like the hassle (esp the server).

Btw can't believe people r buying GPU for folding, r u guys thinking about returning them after folding month lol that would be too savage? I guess if u have few hundred bucks that u are thinking about donating to charity anyway, blow it on folding is a good cause! (Instead of beer)

Neither off these cards will ever see a gaming workload (so long as they're in ITNOS anyways)

Do you need to be connected to the internet for the folding to work and if so then how much data per day and bandwidth does it typically use ?

One could turn these cards after competition for crypto mining, I'd buy the 2070's one would be for gaming in a new rig the other 2 would be used for things mentioned and would likely be put into my server, tho my server only has one appropriate PCI-E slot for the cards... But if I go that route I prob could figure out something then.

To fold no, to download/Upload obviously. The bandwidth is usually about 50-100 up/down a piece.

I bought the 2070 Super as washed an upgrade from the 1070 Ti... I'll be selling the 1070ti after the event though

RIP
I think I did a little too good of a job dusting my system yesterday.

GTX1080Ti was happily folding at 2037MHz at around 60-62°C all day. Was a little warm today, high 20s low 30s so I had the fans running 100%.
Came back to my computer after cooking dinner and GPU temp had dropped almost 10 degrees down to 53°C and the core clock was boosting up to 2062MHz. Wasn't long before it crashed with unstable clocks, went from 1.2M PPD estimate for the card down to 800K PPD estimate.
Will need to restart my PC to reset the card but I have a large file transfer (~600GB) backing up to my NAS and I can't restart until that's finished.

Damn you temperature dependent GPU Boost 2.0!

idk how it locks the card for you, it doesn't for me even if F@H crashes. I just edit the OC and click apply in afterburner again

/shrug

I wish one could just lock pascal cards to a certain frequency and prevent them from going higher or lower. Really bugs me out to see some WUs it's dropping to 2038 when I know it's stable at 2050 and then on others it goes to 2061 and crashes there, while if caught early and left at 2050 it's still stable. dumb ****ing nvidia gdi (Btw hi buildzoid)

depending on what the card is doing, my 1080ti can idle anywhere from 35-60c based on whether i've got things like chrome or origin open which are utilising the GPU, even in the background

basically, any hardware accelerated app. that will make the card run in low power but 3d mode, i.e. mine is at 1569MHz at about 0.8 volts. That's for chrome, origin and other apps like this (and also very low complexity games running on minimal settings like xonotic, it's always bottlenecked by the cpu for me, even at 700 fps on some maps)

The clocks for true 2d idle are about 139-165MHz at 0.650 volts for me.

that SC2 is a beauty of a card - i owned one myself until i put it into @Kohrak_Kal's machine

It's technically a FTW2,  so it's a bigger cooler than the SC2

Last year I stayed in 15th with an average PPD of about 1.5M. We will have to see if I can even stay in top 20 this year, RTX cards are so powerful....

Shouldn't be, I've gone offline and had no issues. Issues happen if it can't connect to the server before the deadline displayed in the program.

Also exactly how much data does it use ? (don't wanna go over the cap so......)

That depends on the project downloaded and the time it takes you to complete it, so assuming the worst at 200 per project you can go based on the time it takes to complete 1 task.
