Gpus are also much more efficient at folding a single 2060 will get you over 1 million ppd. Then there are the crazies like myself with my 1080ti, 2070, and two 970s.

Just had to reboot another system. It wouldnt be so bad if I didnt know I'm also losing all the work since the last checkpoint for the other GPU and the CPU

If you pause the slots first you don't lose the progress afaik

One - try 7 or 8 times today:

I've been posting logs over at foldingform so they are aware of the issue. They seemed to think it was fixed but I believe I have disabused them of that notion

I dont think a pause will do a checkpoint. Those are hard-coded into the WU with the client-side setting being a "suggestion"

But it does save the progress, at least it seems that way to me

Only if the WU stays in memory. If you exit the FAHClient it dumps the memory. My understanding is that only a checkpoint will save to disk.

Ill have to double check but most of the time when I pause it is for the sole purpose of exiting the client and starting it back up and from what Ive seen I don't seem to lose any progress doing so but I also haven't been paying much attention definitely will have to do some testing after the 5th of next month.

I've successfully heated my basement by a few degrees, but temps are holding strong!  Glad I don't have to hear the fans and can leave them cranked up.

 

 

Annoyingly, however, my 1660 Ti seems to only be getting around 550k PPD.

 

 

I was expecting it to get more like 700k PPD...  The 1070 is sitting right around 700k PPD, which is what I'm expecting.

That is weird since it does seem like it still has some power headroom left. You might want to try increasing the power limit on it to the full 120w its rated for.

I haven't manually set a lower power limit, but I does seem like both cards sit about 20-30 W below the max rated power.  The 1070 is usually around 120 W and the 1660 Ti is around 100 W (that nvidia-smi snapshot happened to catch a low dip).

 

I'm really inexperienced with Linux... is there an easy way to force a higher power target similar to Afterburner in Windows?  Google showed me the way (I think).

It definitely saves progress somewhere as ive just paused and quit the client to restart my PC and it continued where i left off

Hmm... so even with manually setting the power limits to the max allowed, they still seem to be not running at full power.  The 1070 is 121/170 W and the 1660 Ti is 101/120 W.  I'll keep investigating.

have to remember it won't hit the fill power limit unless you are adding OC to the core as the memory is very underutilised for folding

Yes. It just allows it to hit the higher power target if needed. like when you move the slider all the way up in afterburner. But yes to actually achieve it you will need to oc. I was only saying that might be the issue since it was so much lower than the rating but like you said you caught it at a dip. But if your interested in more overclocking stuff in linux this is the place to check.

Yeah usually event if its an OC model there is still some to be had but overclocking is something you really just got to take on on your own. I learned how to get to where I am by messing around with cards and figuring out what the different settings did and then learned how to actually find where their limits are. I would start with a youtube vid on basic gpu overclocking and go from there. As for utilities I think we all agree MSI Afterburner or EVGA precision boost are the ones to go with (will work on all cards despite brand.)
