Looking for a good sci-fi, horror, or thriller movie from the past few years

Have you watched "Sunshine" ?

I love sci-fi and I tend to watch just about any decent one on Netflix, or wherever, but for some reason most of the ones I've seen recently Have just been really bad. Has anyone seen a sci-fi movie, horror/thriller or otherwise, recently that they really liked?

Also, it sucks that they canceled the OA.

Recently re-watched Starship Troopers on Prime, truly a classic.

Battle: Los Angeles is on Netflix, IIRC. Was ripped to shreds by neckbeards at the time because it's sci-fi without a deeper meaning, but it's a pretty decent war film.

On Netflix, there's "Another Life". Haven't watched it yet, but it's about alien visitors and humans flying to their homeworld. Star of the show is that blonde chick with short hair from Battlestar Galactica (sry, forgot her name).

Otherwise, "Life" was pretty cool despite few really dumb plot holes, but the concept was freaking cool.

"Cloverfield" is also a must. All 3 movies, including Cloverfield Lane which I was hesitating to watch at first but then watched it anyway and goes well with the whole story.

Oh and you have to watch "The Mist". Not the series but the movie tho series were alright too. Incredible suspense, and probably most mindfuck ending of all movies I've seen in last 20 years, totally outside of Hollywood typial design.

+1 Cloverfield Lane.

Not on Netflix but I really enjoyed Captive State, also with John Goodman.

I can't believe they actually got away with that ending on a "big budget" flick....

Thank you very much for the responses, I really appreciate it! I love the mist, I have not seen it in forever so I think I will re-watch it! I also love the jacket, that is a great suggestion for a re-watch as well or if anyone else has not seen it. I will also check out "life" and the Cloverfield sequels which I have not seen. Thanks again for the suggestions.

I loved The Perfection on Netflix. Also I liked Apostle, but it can be too slow for some people.

El Cuerpo and The Orphanage are very good.

Ultra is stupid. ALWAYS.

Independence Day is the best. Not the sequel.

I haven't seen any of those except for the perfection which I really liked especially because I didn't know anything about it going in (which is how I recommend anyone else see it). So I will check out some of those other ones, thanks.

With much appreciation for all of the suggestions, I'm declaring you the winner because I freakin' love Sunshine,  And I really want anyone interested in this topic who has not seen it to see this post because it's a fantastic sci-fi movie and I'm always surprised by how few people have seen it.
