Thread was merged with a really old thread?

No "thread merged" from a mod, kept my title and poll, but my topic was merged with one created back in 2013

Is this normal?

It's normal if your thread is too similar to another one on most forums, as this helps keep the forums free of duplicate threads or topics.

Just odd that it was such an old thread, I can see if there was a recent thread, like the discussions about the recent userbenchmark changes, but a thread from 2013?

It still has recent comments on it - looks like it's one of the threads that's still relevant, despite being started 6 years ago.

On posts that go back a few months or more it says "please consider making a new topic" or something, kinda what I was thinking

Few months is nothing if subject is so generic. It's whole different thing with news topic. Or if you revive over 6mo old thread of something more specific.
