explain what PCIE lanes are

how many are needed in SLI vs. Crossfire

what else uses PCIE lanes

refer to threatrippers x64 lanes vs. intels 44 lanes on the top end products

explain why it is no issue for normal consumers

how voltage regulation works, what the capacitors do in voltage regulation, VRMs, transistors, switches, etc. Why its bad to rely on capacitors for momentary high loads and why its better to over estimate your PSU by a lot (not to mention efficiency and heat too).

Im sick of explaining it here, too many false info about it in regards to PSU wattage and spikes.

Something I became curious about a couple of days ago and would love to see the LMG team put a video together on it:

What makes a GPU chip different from a CPU chip? Are they essentially the same but surrounded by different resources that allow them to perform their tasks better or are they completely different beside the silicon they are made of?

Some good ideas recently, folks.

Don't be surprised to see one or two of them in an upcoming episode.

Keep them coming...

How about some videos explaining all this CPU/GPU marketing words.

Like what are Teraflops or Floating Point performance or PCI Express lanes or Gigahash or folding performance and why I should care about them for playing games.

Thats 2 very seperate questions.

One is graphics which is math which most commonly uses 32 bit float (some use 64 bit or 16 bit). Infact old games and some games use fp16 on GPU (RIP pascal) since it uses less memory and is faster than fp32 so is used where fp32 isnt needed.

The other is different. Hashing is a memory concept, unlike arrays and lists it strives to have the advantage of both. The faster array performance, and the dynamic memory use of lists. Hashing has a math behind it totally different from graphics. Both CPUs and GPUs are good at it but GPUs have 10x more memory bandwidth than CPUs and many more "cores" to do the simple math involved.

They wont fit in 1 quickie episode, they are 2 totally different things.

The other thing is with games. Games have a 3D engine and a graphics engine. The 3D engine is done by CPU, data given to GPU which than renders the information. So for games 3D is calculated by CPU, graphics by GPU.

Thats 3 episodes

Sparc CPUs as fast as possible. They were impressive CPUs that died out. They had lots more cache, more levels of cache, hardware accelerators, RISC architecture, more threads per core (HT has 2, sparc had CPUs with 8 threads per core, such as a 16 core 8 thread per core CPU long before intel had that many cores in their xeon line). They were used in data crunching tasks too from oil and gas, military, medical, even network encryptions.

You could even add in E3, E5, E7, and the new bronze, silver, etc ones.
