Desktop motherboard support ECC RAM after BIOS modding

Am planing to mod my MSI g41m p26(I know this if old but this is for testing)motherboard bios and use xeon processor in it.

After modding with xeon this motherboard support ECC RAM?

Nope, not according to the motherboard manual.

what type of ecc do you want to use? Most desktops board will work fine with unbuffered ecc, just not in ecc mode. FB dimms won't work at all on that board.

What xeon do you want to do? Are you trying to do the 771 in 755 thing? Id just get a cheap core 2 quad if you want a faster processor, there so cheap on ebay now.

No. Unlike newer processors, Core 2s didn't have on-die memory controllers; the memory was accessed through the chipset. Since the G41 chipset doesn't support ECC, putting an Xeon processor in it will not enable ECC. Only X38/X48 chipsets from that generation will support (only DDR2) ECC RAM.

The motherboards won't support it after a BIOS mod as the chipset physically doesn't work with it. That being said, if you're going to mod the BIOS, mod it so that it supports the Xeons properly (did that with my Asus P5Q Deluxe).

They are slower than the Xeon, while costing a bit more. And X5450 are even cheaper again...just with a higher rated TDP than the E5450.

Edit: I had my X5450 working on an Asus P5K-VM as my first socket mod system. And it worked perfectly fine as long as it was left stock. Just put in an old LGA775 CPU (eg. Pentium 630), cut the tabs carefully with a craft knife and the socket accepts Xeons.

@skgabrielz
Just letting you know BTW that some new (or newer) games won't launch on anything from LGA775 as they are just 1 generation too old and lack "SSE 4.2" (they have 4.1 however), and that some games would run far better on an i3 4160. Even though when using all cores a Xeon benchmarks as far faster.

Though in my case, that's also probably because the i3 has 8GB DDR3 1333 instead of 6GB DDR2 800 (motherboard has gotten extremely fussy, used to run it with 8GB DDR2 1066).
