Buid -- https://pcpartpicker.com/list/PdcWWD

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 3 2200G 3.5 GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($79.89 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: MSI - B450I GAMING PLUS AC Mini ITX AM4 Motherboard  ($129.97 @ Amazon)
Memory: Kingston - FURY 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-2666 Memory  ($69.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Western Digital - SN750 250 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive  ($69.89 @ OutletPC)
Case: Fractal Design - Node 804 MicroATX Mid Tower Case  ($109.99 @ Newegg Business)
Power Supply: Thermaltake - SMART 550 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply  ($53.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Case Fan: Noctua - NF-S12A PWM 120 mm Fan  ($19.79 @ OutletPC)
Total: $533.50

Location: USA

Budget: ~$530 or less

Primary use: HTPC (Home Theater PC) for streaming 1080p / 1440p movies. Plan to add a graphics card in the future to support 4K movies.

The HTPC will be connected to a 1080p Projector (and in the future to a 4K TV).

Why are you upgrading?

On my previous home-theater setup, I was running Kodi on a Raspberry Pi and it was woefully inadequate.

Couple things apart from the build itself:

  1. I would like some recommendations on media center software to install on an HTPC. Currently, I am planning to use Kodi for streaming content from my NAS, but I'd be open to considering other alternatives. I will also be streaming live sporting events, Netflix etc.
  2. I'd appreciate recommendations on peripherals for an HTPC in the living room such as controllers, remotes etc.

Thanks!

Hmmm, interesting.

AMD X370 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update.

Also, I went with the WD SN750 because it's an NVMe SSD. Not sure if there's observable differences between NVMe and M2.

1. you may but the likelihood is there that it is already updated due to how old the mobo is

2.you won't feel much of a difference in the ssd but if you transfer a lot of files there will defiantly be a difference

it's been well over a year since the 2200G launched so it should already be updated. M.2 is just a form factor, the EX950 is also an NVMe drive(which you don't actually need, btw)

PSU is ancient and not good, get a CX450 instead. pretty sure that board has mediocre VRMs.

if you planing to use this for an HTPC then he probably won't need VRM that powerful unless he decides to OC

Quick questions regarding this:

- What home theater software would you be installing for your build?

- Also, what peripherals apart from a keyboard and mouse?
