HELP! PURCHASE CANON WIDE LENS (USED OR NEW)

Hello, I have started exploring photography by utilizing my sister's unused Canon EOS 600D Body + CANON 50mm lens & Sigma 70-300mm macro lens.

 

I am now on a verge of purchasing a wide lens, aiming for the CANON 10-18mm to be exact (for video recording purposes mostly)

 

Is it worth it to buy 2nd hand or buy new one? What would be the pros and cons? Any suggestions?

..but, buy from a reputable source, like Adorama or B&H Photo.

What are your requirements on buying used lenses then? Do you ask for original packaging? Receipts? Is it a NO if they couldn't provide even if the lens are in good condition?

I could care less about box etc. I trust when they say "fully functional, minimal wear" that that is what I get. They both have a rating system on their gear and I've found it to be dead on.

 

Alternative, buy used on eBay from Japanese sellers, they are *really* picky about their gear and I've found lenses they list as "heavily used" that has one slight mark on the barrel and is otherwise brand-new.

Im lucky enough to have a camera store near where i live and i always buy second hand lenses from him if i need one and they come with a 6 month warrenty to.

Where in the world are you Magdi? I guess not the US as your model is 600D not a rebel. Maybe location would help as then people in your country could advise on a good dealer. For instance here n the UK, HDEW have the 10-18 for £179. There are also plenty of good shops that sell used lenses I could mention.

I would probably get Canon's certified refurbished model. Canon refurbished equipment is in like-new condition and comes with the same warranty as their brand new equipment, all at often hundreds of dollars cheaper.

KEH is also another good source of used camera gear as they specialize in it, and I've heard good things about them.

KEH for what it is, its very expensive u may as well buy new.
