Have you looked through monitor's settings to see if its set to 120Hz by default?

Main system: Ryzen 7 7800X3D / Asus ROG Strix B650E / G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 32GB 6000Mhz / Powercolor RX 7900 XTX Red Devil/ EVGA 750W GQ / NZXT H5 Flow

Is the DP Cable you bought the correct generation that supports 144hz on your resolution? Also if the monitor came with a DP cable try that one and see if it let's you do 144hz. Then you'll know if it is the cable.

it is a 1.2DP cable, this shouldn't be the problem either. conntacting NVIDIA live assistance right now, maybe they know something

Well trying the cable that came with the monitor would be a troubleshooting step. It would help you rule out if it is the cable or not, the one you bought could be falsely advertised or even just a cheap cable. The one that came with the monitor should be the correct one for the monitors resolution and refresh rate I would try it just to be sure it's not a problem with the cable.
