3600, 3600X or 3700X?

Right now I mainly only game, and occasionally stream. I’m upgrading from an i5-8400(long story, i know the gaming performance isn’t too big between an 8400 and a 3rd gen ryzen)

I can probably afford the 3700X by the end of the year, but I don’t know if I should get a 3600 or 3600X to save money and spend that on my GPU(Right now looking at 2070 Super, might get a 2080 Super)

I’m running 1440p 144Hz

3700X then because it can stream well, not so much the 6 core ones. If AMD release an even cheaper Zen 2 8 core, get that instead (3700?)

I was going to suggest the 3700X too, but he can't afford it until the end of year, which is why if he absolutely needed to he could go for the 3600X.

So you are telling him to pay 25% price premium for 2-5% performance increase compared to 3600?

Some benchmarks say that it's way more than 2-5%, about 10-15% actually. No idea though, could just be an error

I can’t afford any of them until the end of the year. I’ll be saving up till then no matter what, as my finals are in November. I wouldn’t mind getting a 3600 and OCing it, saving myself $50USD(here it’s more like $60-70 USD) which I can spend on RAM.

Watching Gamers Nexus’ reviews, the 3600 is like at most 5-10% slower than the 3700X in gaming, most of the time it’s less than 5%. I’m leaning towards saving $130 and losing 5-10% which I won’t notice much. As for streaming I’m not entirely serious about it so it’s okay if I can’t.

Streaming isn’t too important for me, do you think $130 is worth it to get the 3700X over 3600? I saw that their gaming differences are non existent in Gamers Nexus’ review, I’m just afraid of paying $199 USD to upgrade from 6C/6T to 6C/12T, although my OEM 8400 has a lot of issues(like boosting to 3.61GHz instead of the advertised 3.8 all core, and having a really bad single core perf which I can’t figure out how to fix, just assumed it was because Intel gave the worst-binned ones to Alienware or somethiing)

Wait for Black Friday deals then. Pointless to ask now.

Also by that time there should be navi 5700 / 5700XT with nice coolers - they're better than 2060 super at lower price.

Looking for something closer to a 2080, maybe 2070 super or 2080 super. I’ll have to see reviews about 5700XT

About Black Friday, might be able to snag some on Amazon then deliver them to the US since I’ll be visiting there. Thanks for the suggestion
