FreeNAS/Nextcloud Giving Me Grief...

So, I am hosting a FreeNAS server in a VM. That all works, except for the fact that 2 of my 3 devices can't connect to it! I have 3 devices that I want to connect:

 

Desktop (Works)

 

Laptop (Timeout Error)

 

iPhone XS MAX (Timeout Error)

 

There is something strange with my current install of Nextcloud, if I go to the management page as FreeNAS links it to me, I get a "Welcome to NGINX" screen that tells me more configuration is required. However, if I enter the IP followed by /index.php it works perfectly fine. I don't know if this matters, but I feel it is worth mentioning.

 

I need to make sure this is solid, as I am using it as a data server for a friend of mine to sync game recordings to for me to edit.

 

Any help is appreciated! It's late, so I will be seeing all responses and responding tomorrow.

If you doing nextcloud and already have a hypervisor, why not just make a seprate vm for nextcloud and not run it in freenas?

 

This feels like a nginx config issue, can you change those config files?

Not to my knowledge, no. Since nothing is on the Nextcloud yet, im trying one more reinstall. If this fails I will just run the server directly rather than going through FreeNAS.

Id just run it on debian/ubuntu/centos on its own vm. Makes it easier to manage and backup and restore and work with.

If you're running ESXi, I'd just download nextcloud's OVA.

Thank you both for your replies, I'm not sure why I felt the need to run Nextcloud in FreeNAS. I've never used CentOS, but I'm installing it in my VM now. Will report back with how it went!

So, I have configured it using Docker and Powershell, the link to "connect your clients to the server" is now http://localhost:8080/, which nothing but the hosting PC can connect to. What did I miss?

are you doing this on windows? Why are you doing this on windows, id fire up a linux vm and shove it in there.

Thats the guide I used, firewall is configured no different on any device.

 

I may try Ubuntu Server later if I can't figure this out.

what os are you running docker on? 

 

Did you check firewall?

 

Docker runs on a vm in windows, so id try running it natively on linux.

Just read this again, if only the hosting pc can connect to, then firewall is blocking, thats expected, make an exception.

Im doing this properly, as I should have before given what I wanted to do. Busting out the Rasberry Pi, its Apache webserver time!

why use the pi when you can use a vm?

So I don't have to host it on my PC, thus using up resources.
