Is the COOLER WRAITH PRISM ok for the 3700x?

Looking at all the reviews, the new ryzen doesnt OC much and is very power efficient, so is the stock cooler ok for it? Or should i buy another cooler? Because if not necessary i might be able to buy a new ssd for my new PC

Main rig: CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X cooled by a Noctua NH-U14S; Mem: 16 GB(2x8) G.Skill TridentZ White 3200 MHz; GPU: EVGA RTX 2070 XC; MOBO: MSI B450 Tomahawk; Storage: XPG Spectrix S40G M.2 512GB SSD; Kingston A400 480GB SSD; 1TB Western Digital Blue HDD; PSU: Corsair CX750M Semi-modular (80+ bronze); CASE: Thermaltake Commander C36.

 

Secondary rig: CPU: Intel Core i7 4790 @3.60GHz(Turbo @4.00GHz) cooled by Corsair H60; Mem: G.Skill RipJawsX DDR3 16GB(4x4) OC@2133MHz (11-11-11-30 (1.6V)); GPU: None(for now); MOBO: Gigabyte Z87-HD3; Storage:HyperX 120GB; PSU: Thermaltake SmarT series 750w (80+ bronze); CASE: Thermaltake Chaser A41.

If the SSD is something that you currently don't have then it could be worth spending on one before a new cooler. But if cooling and CPU performance is of concern to you, then a beefier air cooler would do justice to the Ryzen 7 chips as all of them generate a considerable amount of heat on idle or load, most especially X chips since they have a feature called Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) and it increases voltages dynamically to increase CPU clock speed dynamically basing on temps and load. 

 

As a reference, I ran my 2700x on the prism for a solid month but I was getting worried of the less than optimal temps under load, with temps of 80c with PBO on auto and around 87c with PBO enabled under full load, with both hovering in the 45-60c on idle. The dual tower and fan cooler that I have has brought down idle temps to 35-50c with PBO enabled and 30-45c with PBO on auto and load temps of 65-70c with PBO auto and 75-80c with PBO enabled. 

 

So its up to you what you would prioritize, better cooling or a faster drive.

Yes you can stick to the stock cooler, it's part what makes the 3700X a much better value CPU than the i7 9700K
