Looking for Lenovo Gaming and Workstation Laptop

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

Hello,

I am looking for a new laptop and recently I have been looking at Lenovo laptops in particular. I need a laptop that works both as a gaming machine and as a workstation. I like what Lenovo offers as far as their Thinkpad line (design, features, etc.); that being said I don't know how well these devices will stack up as gaming machines. Are there any Lenovo laptops in their Thinkpad line that would be sufficient for gaming (performance comparable to an RTX 2060 or GTX 1070)?

Thank You

Do you absolutely need a laptop? For a workstation and gaming PC a desktop would be a much more suitable option. Lenovo's thinkpad line isn't really built for gaming, you can still use them for gaming but from what I've seen they aren't the best for it, their workstation models are all quadros and specifically built for professional workloads like editing and rendering.

It all depends on your specific uses like what games and programs.

I already have a dedicated desktop computer. That being said most of my work these days has to be done while I am on the go. Hence the need for something portable and powerful. I do a lot of work with the Adobe and Autodesk suites and when it comes to games I like playing TF2, LOL, Borderlands, Far Cry, Battlefield, Witcher, etc.

My budget maximum is $2300.

I can't see any RTX GPUs offered for the Lenovo ThinkPads but there is this one:

Custom Built Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme 20MF000LUS Workstation - 15.6" Full HD (1920x1080) IPS w/ nVIDIA GTX1050 TI Max-Q

There are better GPUs though like the GTX 1650 in the new Dell XPS 15: Custom Built Dell XPS 15 7590 - 15.6" FHD - i7-9750H - GTX 1650

But if it was my money, this is what I'd get: Custom Built MSI GS65 8SG Stealth-005 - 15.6" FHD 144Hz - i7-8750H - RTX 2080 Max-Q

It's on a discount right now and the 2080 Max-Q would give you similar performance to the full RTX 2070 (non Max-Q) plus it's super sleek in design.

I recommend you get it from HIDevolution for their superb build quality and to get their thermal updates which are a MUST especially in these kind of laptops. In the laptop configurator, choose "Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut + Fujipoly Extreme Thermal Pads" for the best cooling.

Another great laptop which I've actually owned a few months back is the Alienware m15

Superb build quality, sleek in design, great battery life if you opt for the 90WHr battery version and packs a lot of performance in this small little package.
