more than the DVD?

So I have a DVD with a capacity of 4.37 GB.  pretty usual but I can't load anything on it (as if my PC can't read any data from it)

 

so I checked the size of the files and what da ya know it has more than 100GB of files stored on it !!!

 

so my problems :

A. how is this possible 

 

B. How to fix it

If the disc was already written to and finalized and it's not a RW disc, then there's nothing you can do to fix it as they are write once discs.

Do I need a DVD writer/reader that supports this format?

You already have a RW drive from the screenshots. If you want to have discs that are re-writeable, then you need to buy re-writeable discs.

I do have a RW drive but the video that I want to watch won't even open and that's my problem

Ahh I see, from your posts it looked like you were having a problem trying to WRITE data to the disc, not read it. There can be MANY factors why a DVD won't play, it can be that the data wasn't completed writing, it could need a specific player or codecs to read the disc etc etc.

it takes a LONG time (not kidding it once took 40 min to open it and froze after playing for like 2-4 mins) to load and as I said it just freezes mid-way 

 

all encoders are installed as well

It sounds like a bad write, a dual layer DVD has a capacity of around 8.5GB... so if windows is reporting it as having 100GB on it... which is impossible... then some things is wrong with the disc (assuming other discs read/load fine)

 

The only thing I could suggest is to try and copy the file you want off the disc on to the HDD and see if it plays from there.

 

But experience tells me that's not going to help.

Another way would be to try and rip ISO of ir. Then mount that to virtual drive. I've done this with older and scratched game disc's in the past.
