Low-FPS in most games

I'm a pretty big amateur when it comes to PC's but from what I'm seeing online my specs should provide much higher FPS than I'm getting.

 

Specs:

 

• CPU - AMD Athlon II X4 860K
• GPU - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960
• RAM - Kingston 9905584-032.A 2x4GB
• Drive - Toshiba DT01ACA100 1TB

 

My Monitor is ASUS VS228 (60Hz) but I don't think that is the reason why I'm getting between 40-60 FPS for most games like CSGO & Overwatch when I'm running them at Medium to low graphics (sometimes even lower FPS!)

 

I also have an issue where when I'm playing overwatch it says I have run out of memory and the game will crash even though I am only running Overwatch and the Blizzard.net app. This isn't constant and happens every now and again but recently it has become a bit more often.

 

All of my drivers are up to date as far as I'm aware and I recently did a benchmark test - 

 

UserBenchmarks: Game 34%, Desk 39%, Work 26%
CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 860K - 49.4%
GPU: Nvidia GTX 960 - 39.5%
HDD: Toshiba DT01ACA100 1TB - 98.4%
RAM: Kingston 9905584-032.A 2x4GB - 36.8%
MBD: Gigabyte GA-F2A78M-HD2

 

 

If anyone has any help or advice on what I can do to improve my FPS & Memory issues then it would be much appreciated! Thanks.

your first problem is the cpu, yesterday i moved from that same cpu to a ryzen, ix4 860k is a cheap and weak cpu, will not push to the limits that gtx gpu

 

the out of ram sounds like a vram setting you need to reconfigure, perhaps lower textures on the game or lower filtering so vram is enough, for that gpu is better to use textures to medium so it doesnt hit the 2gbs of vram limit

 

cs:go prefers new ryzen or intel cpus, your cpu is the limit there, you will not get more because game depends on single core performace and that cpu doesnt have much single core performace

 

consider moving to a better cpu, a ryzen or a i5, it will require new motherboard and new ram

 

the gpu i would replace it soon too, the vram limit is really annoying and is a problem on most new games, old multiplayer games like cs go dont have problems with that really but newer games will want to have 4gbs of vram

I'd say between 300 & 400 GBP. Could possibly go a bit beyond that if it's absolutely necessary. I don't want to spend loads on these upgrades but I understand I need some kind of noticeable upgrade

I would say its about time for a new system since the 960 is starting to show its age and if you wanted to upgrade your cpu then you'd need a new motherboard, ram, and possibly psu. Unless your absolutely set on upgrading instead of starting fresh, id just save up and sell your previous system and gpu.

A B450 motherboard with a Ryzen 5 3600 and at least 8GB of memory in 2x4GB configuration although 16gb in 2x8gb configuration would be the most optimal setup, you should be able to afford it with 400GBP.

 

Might wanna consider a new PSU as well if yours low end and old, you don't want brand new hardware getting fried up due to outdated PSU.

You could also get a 2600 instead for pretty cheap now (at least in the us, dont know about in the uk) since 3rd gen ryzen came out.

Gigabyte B450M DS3H, AMD Ryzen 5 3600 Processor (6C/12T, 35MB Cache, 4.2 GHz Max Boost) & Corsair CMK8GX4M2C3000C16 Vengeance LPX 8GB Kit (2 x 4GB) DDR4 3000MHz

 

Are they okay? Just want to make sure before I spend any money lol

The 3600 is actually quite a bit better than the 2600.

In day to day tasks, no. In gaming and multithreaded workloads, sort of. While the 3600 is better than the 2600, the 2600 can be had for about 130 usd vs the 200usd of the 3600 in the US.

i bougth that same motherboard this week, it came with a old bios, so it wouldnt run ryzen 3000 cpus, be sure to buy one that already comes with the latest bios, seller can confirm you that, otherwise dont buy it, cpu wont work

Some places will update the bios for you if you ask and sometimes even for free.
