CAMERA as WEBCAM?

Alrighty, to begin I wanted to thank everyone who is reading this; I respect that!

So to start off this topic, I had a basic question that I've been working on for quite some time.. How to link a camcorder or a GoPro to the computer to use as a webcam. I'm sure there is a way, but using OBS I still have trouble finding a solid conclusion to the problem. So I was hoping that we can come up with a solution to this intriguing problem. (I do find it to be possible to link a canon DSLR using EOS Utility; but how would you do it with GoPro for instance?)

How many people acclomplish this is using a capture card.

Most bigger cameras have a (mini/micro) HDMI connector on them, which will output the signal it is seeing, route this through a capture card which will 'convert' the signal so OBS can pick it up and that way you can do whatever you want inside OBS.

 

I believe the GoPro cameras do not have a straight HDMI, so I suppose there must be a different way to accomplish this.. But I am not sure :P

(I think) My GoPro Hero 3+ has a micro HDMI port on it, and I would assume that the newer generations would also have this feature. The only GoPro that comes to mind that wouldn't work is the 'session' since they are so compact.

Oh yeah, looks like the 'normal' GoPro's have MicroHDMI (the worst type of HDMI in terms of longevity, IMO) so that can totally be used in the same way!

But the Session does not feature this..

 

Just to elaborate on the capture cards, I am talking about the offerings from Elgato, AverMedia, Epiphan, etc.
