High core voltage on idle with PBO - 2700x

Hello,

 

I have begun to tweak my 2700x to max out its potential. I run it with a b450 gaming pro carbon ac from MSI, 16gb of ram 3200Mhz, and a Dark rock pro 4 from Be Quiet. 

My problem is the following : since I enabled Pbo, I noticed really high core voltage on idle, between 1.48 and 1.5, measured with Ryzen Master. I'm not talking about spikes, the cpu runs continuously with these voltages. However, the temperature is totally acceptable, between 34 and 36 degrees. I also enabled offset mode in bios, and set it to -0.1375, seems stable for now, but from the values in Ryzen Master, i'm not totally sure it's working properly. I really don't understand why i have so high voltages, could you help me to get rid of it, or at least tell me if it is safe to keep it like this ?

When you enable PBO, the voltages reported in Ryzen Master won't account for the voltage offset that you made in the BIOS. That is why it appears to be idling at more than 1.5V but in truth its doing so at a voltage specified by the boosting mechanism plus the voltage offset you made. For example, my 2700x when PBO is enabled shows idle voltages in Ryzen Master the same as yours but actually I'm idling only at around 1.4V give or take a few mv. When it hit loads the voltage will drop anyway so unless you're setting manual static voltages (in which case you should be careful of going into the 1.4v+) you're totally safe even if it boosts sometimes to 1.5v+ or idles not going below 1.4V. Totally normal for the PBO mechanism (I've got mine on -0.0750 offset). Use Ryzen Master for temps and use HWinfo for all other variables to be monitored.

 

What is different from mine though is I am seeing that your clock speeds settles at around 2.133 at the lowest while mine settles at around 2.765 and yours boosts to 4.35 while main only manages 4.3 at most. May I ask what power plan you have enabled and other settings you have made in the BIOS?
