w10 install failing on AMD-Ryzen3 plateforms.

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

Hello,

I am trying to install w10 on 2 new set of hardware.

Set 1 is a ASrock X370M-pro4 motherboard, with a Ryzen 3 2200G APU.
Set 2 is a Gigabyte B450M-DS3H also with a Ryzen 3 2200G APU.

Using the windows media creator tool, i have a USB stick witch i am trying to use to install windows on those rigs. I tested the stick , of courxe.

On BOTH set, after booting from the UBD-ESD stick, almost immadiately after the w10 logo, i have the following error :

  • Your PC needs to be repair....
  • The operating system could be load beacsuse of critical system drivers ...
  • Error code 0xc0000221

The install process did not even start.
No way to have the repair option, no way to insert drivers at first installation

After digging a little, i finally found this:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4504107/cannot-install-may-2019-update-on-computers-running-certain-amd-raid
https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/pa-260

The fact is this is not helping !
- The so called X399 updated drivers is an EXE file, witch is used for updates, when i am FRESH INSTALLING

- how to even inject those drivers when the USB-ESD is not even reaching the install point ??

What am i missing here ?
Anyone with a clue.

Have you tried a different USB/ISO?

Have you tried strictly using USB 2.0?

Have you tried making remaking the installation media, I've had issues before where the software didn't do it right for some reason

Hi,

yes i did try different options, including new stick, even uploading the iso, burning on a dvd and running install from dvd.

Tried to apply all the tricks on bios too, like usb lagacy support, enabling csm, no hardware tpm .....

This is absolutly the problem pinpoint from article https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4504107/cannot-install-may-2019-update-on-computers-running-certain-amd-raid

When booting from a usb drive you usually get 2 options 'usb drive name' and 'UEFI: usb drive name'. I've had driver issues when using the UEFI boot option in the past so i suggest(if you have not already) trying the non UEFI boot option.

Hi,

i am using mediacreationtool1903.

I recommend 1803/1806, has worked absolutely fine for me.

If those computers are used for anything other than simple web viewing i don't recommend putting that unstable 1903 version of windows on them.

Good luck.

New windows versions that haven't been released yet are always pretty buggy, so i tend to avoid them. But try 1809, that is a bit newer than 1806 and is still a stable release. It is what i am currently on.

1903 is the official release. I did try to revert to the previous but had the same bug.

DAMM AMD ! I was thinking to revert to the red time, forget it !

So far, i am stuck ...

How, thank for getmyos, but this is non-offical image, sometimes full of craps. I prefer not to use it !

OK, fix done.

First, had to slipstream to previous w10 iso with the latest amd drivres from x399 amd. Seem my first try was bad.

I succeed installing and running for a few times, until i had so many memory management error i had to run deep to understant the 0x message.

It was a 1 bit corruption. Very weird. So after several hours, i decided to switch my corsair LPX to a Gskill memory. Suddenly, system stable and running.

Run a x86 mem on the LPX,. Find several bad blocks. Long time i had a bad stick, shit happens.  RMA...

Honestly, after all this, there is one point i dont like in AMD based system: the drivers distro; It's a EXE distro. The Intel based are 99% inf distro. This is really a difference when troubleshoot is needed !

Thank to all who participate

It's also been very stable for me, which includes dozens of laptops in the corporate setting and several AMD Ryzen systems at home.

yes, i tested with a ryzen 7 and 9 and had no problems.

With a ryzen 3 1200, no problem. But with the ryzen 3 2200G, i hit the bug...

as microsoft say: "certain versions of AMD RAID drivers" for the first bug, but also certain type of ryzen 3 specificaly...

but now, i finally fix it.
