AMD Ryzen 5 2400G Idle Temp

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

Re-edit: HWMonitor shows me 30-50-59C as idle temps! Should I worry about it? Currently I'm using the Wraith Stealth stock cooler that came with Ryzen 5 2400G!! Stock Voltage and Stock Base Clock. Any suggetion for a good aftermarket air cooler (low profile type or a good one to keep temps low)?! Thanks!

I mean, that sounds sort of high for idle, but idk. For a good aftermarket, the noctua dh 15, Arctic freezer esports duo 34 for a budget option.

Just say @Boinbo if you need me! I'll be limited to GPU, CPU, general discussion, peripherals, and new builds and planning though. I'm a potato.

See if the cooler is too tight or too loose cause that can cause heat issues. If not, then pretty much any ~$25 cooler will be fine, like the deepcool gammaxx 400 or the hyper 212 evo off the top of my head

The esports duo 34 is better, while around the same price.

I double check the cooler and as far as I know, is not too tight. Probably I will check again just to make sure!

You can get much better cooling for a bit more, i'd recommend ARCTIC Freezer 33 eSports ONE. if you wanna do a bit higher overclock or something i'd go for cryorig h7

You can see relative performance here:

Besides the NH-D15, there isn't much of a noticeable difference in performance between the coolers mentioned since the 2400G is pretty easy to cool.

Don't worry so much about idle temps. Look at load instead.

If you're not oc'ing, the stock cooler should be plenty for cooling already.

Both are worse than the Hyper 212 RGB BE.

https://thinkcomputers.org/cooler-master-hyper-212-rgb-black-edition-cpu-cooler-review/4/

A direct comparison to the eSports ONE is harder to find since it's been a bit overshadowed but you can see the newer eSports Duo competing more closely with the worse Hyper 212 BE:

Dark rock pro 4 is actually a few bucks cheaper usually than the d15 with like the same performance.

Little update about my Ryzen 5 2400G idle temps! 35-40°C. I also downclocked a bit like from 3.6 to 3.5 GHz (Auto VCore 1.168) but I left XFR2/Turbo Boost enabled (3.9 GHz)! I am not really sure if that's good but at least the APU runs a bit cooler which I guess that's nice! Anyhow, I will replace the stock cooler with a better aftermarket air cooler as soon as I can!

Re-edit: I changed back the stock base clock (3.6 GHz) and the CPU VCore is at 1.225V!

Honestly I would pick that Dark Rock Pro 4 since I would OC my Ryzen 5 2400G (soon I will get R7 3700x or R5 3600 and OC'it something like 4.5-4.7 GHz if I have luck or win the silicon lottery) but probably I'm not sure if that aftermarket cooler would fit or maybe it will but barely in my 88R case!!

Ya, according to pcpartpicker the d15 and drp4 are too big.  https://www.newegg.com/p/2KY-001T-00027?Item=2KY-001T-00027&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker%2c LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&cjevent=bb449a51982b11e9805001950a24060f is about the same price as those 2, works with AM4, and would fit in your case with around the same performance.

How should I say... thanks for the advice/link but actually "no thanks"! That's a big NO NO from me since my old FX-4300 was cooled by CORSAIR Hydro Series H60 and the liquid from the cooler leaked on my other parts of my old rig!! I don't wanna be that "person" but I really prefer to get a "beefy" air cooler rather than those watery monsters!

See if the cooler is too tight or too loose cause that can cause heat issues.

Too tight usually isn't a problem for cooling but instead may cause the system to not boot or be unstable. What you might be referring to is the cooler being too tight on one side in particular and not being evenly mounted.

Just get the 33 esport one and you should be good a drp4 or d15 is only needed for ocing.

The eSports ONE is plenty for oc'ing at least for the 2400G.

The DRP4 probably doesn't fit in the case at 163mm tall.

It's a bit unclear as to what the max clearance for the case is since the spec listed is 150mm but it doesn't account for the side panel bump and taller coolers like the Hyper 212 Evo at 159mm fit: https://pcpartpicker.com/builds/by_part/shtWGX#h=8

A similar quiet option for oc'ing would be the Ninja 5: https://www.dc-shop.ro/coolere-componente/cooler-procesor-scythe-ninja-5-pNyswMDEu-l/

But how far can you push the multipler with it?

How should I say... thanks for the advice/link but actually "no thanks"! That's a big NO NO from me since my old FX-4300 was cooled by CORSAIR Hydro Series H60 and the liquid from the cooler leaked on my other parts of my old rig!! I don't wanna be that "person" but I really prefer to get a "beefy" air cooler rather than those watery monsters!

H60 is kind of waste of money also any liquid cooler can leak, but the beefy coolers don't fit in your case.

Probably about as high as you can with any similar or better cooler. ~4ghz depending on your luck.

The 2400G is pretty easy to cool and you're generally more limited by voltage than cooling.

The reason I'd recommend a better cooler is only if you plan to oc a more power hungry cpu like the aforementioned 3700X or possibly 3600.

Another factor, when someone out of curiosity and pleasure, overclocks both igp and CPU on the 2400g to the full potential. Then a better cooler can be a great thing to have.

In that case I'd even consider some airflow over VRM.

A better than neccessary cooler is always safer than undersized one.

If by full potential, you mean 1.45v+, then sure. A better cooler will always help if you're aiming to squeeze the very last mhz out where voltage demands / temps are rising exponentially.

If safety is the biggest concern, I think the voltage wouldn't be so high that a cooler like the eSports ONE wouldn't be able to easily keep temps in check.
