Thin Profile Cooler Recommendations for i7-9700k?

Recommended Posts

Hey eveyone,

I wanted to see if anyone might have an alternative recommendation for a Noctua NH-U12A? It fits my criteria in terms of size and performance, it's just that I find the fan colors to be a little ugly and the chromax variant of fans is delayed to Q419, so wanted to look at other options. I'm looking for a somewhat thin profile air cooler that won't cover up too much of the RAM, but without sacrificing too much on cooling performance and sound.

I'm planning on using this with an i7-9700k (mild OC, unsure) and the Corsair Vengeance RGB RAM (4x8) which appears to have a height of 51mm. I'd be fine if the cooler covers the first slot but would like to be able to see the others.

Ultimately, if I can't find one with the right size and performance I'll probably stick with the 12A and possibly replace the fans down the road. Who knows, I might not even care so much by then.

Planning on going with the Phanteks P600. Currently located in the Bay Area, CA so have decent access to Frys, but I buy stuff online all the time.

Hmm, Noctua doesn't recommend this for OCing or for the TDP output of the 9700k. It also leads me back to the problem of kinda-ugly Noctua color fans, at which point I'd stay with the 12A.
