Cross posting on multiple subforums

Sauron

It would be nice if a given post could be made to show up under different subforums if it is related to different topics. For instance, if you have a networking problem on Linux you might want to cross post on both the networking and the "everything not windows" subforums to get the attention of both subforums' followers. To avoid abuse it could be limited to two subforums (or however many is appropriate) and maybe exclude some subforums like the news section and general discussion.

There are very few times this is relevant imo. But it would be a really easy thing to abuse and make forum look messy. So I wouldn't just give the option for that to general users. But at the same time adding such task to moderators isn't fair.

Similarly to other forums, there could be a tag system that people could follow.

Tags already are there. Same goes with following certain style of content with activity feeds.

There's a way to follow tags?

Still tags are optional and they aren't fixed, they're not as reliable as subforums.

In a way, yes. But in order to that feature be more useful, there should maybe be pool for recommended tags one could search from and add if there's no suitable one. That would probably eliminate useless and too long tags (as well as offensive and trollish).

if it could create something similar to a symbolic link (or like the residual "this thread has been moved" link) so it's still the one thread, but accessible聽from multiple locations

  • 2 weeks later...

There are technical issues with doing this, so it's not possible. Even if there were possible though, I'm not sure whether I'd be on board with it because I feel like it has scope to turn into a mess pretty quickly.
