2400mhz vs high clocks for processors

My current motherboard is an asus a320m-k which only has 2 dimm slots, so im planning on upgrading sometime soon. My current memory configuration is 8gb (2x4) at 2400mhz. Is it worth paying extra for a 16 gb kit of higher speed memory? Say 3000 or 3200, or should i buy another 8 gb kit of the same 2400mhz. Would the performance gains be worth spending a good bit more, almost double, or is it minor for the most part? My processor is a ryzen 5 2600.

10% gain on average frame rate, 30% gain on frame rate stability. Do you care about that?

Sound like it would be worth it, its more than my motherboard upgrading too, psu, cpu cooler, and a gpu down the line so with the price of those considered, it would seem to be worth it. Thanks.

you could try overclocking your current sticks first, see how far they would go.

@BigChobbs my advice would be: very first. Get a MOTHERBOARD. Ie.: MSI B450M Mortar, Bazooka V2, Gaming Plus, Tomahawk or even ultra-cheap Asrock B450M Pro4.

 

A320 boards will not support memory frequencies above 2666Mhz, neither permit you to OC the CPU. And putting a very basic (-k series asus) mobo under a six-core cpu is just not really a good idea...

 

Upgrade board first, then get 2x8gb 3200Mhz dual channel ram.

Life is really challenging. I don't always suceed: )

As above, motherboards with a320 chipset will limit the ram sticks to max. 2666 mhz even if they're rated for 3000 or 3200 mhz.

You can buy 3000 or 3200 sticks, they'll simmpy un at 2666

Ryzen 3xxxx will work best with 3600mhz but 3200 mhz sticks would be next best thing - would be worth buying such ram to reuse later if you'll decide to change motherboard and upgrade cpu.
