It seems my upgraded internet plan needs an upgraded router

I upgraded my home internet to a 400Mb down/50Mb up connection fairly recently and noticed that I was not consistently getting the speed I'm paying for. After some investigation, I noticed that CPU 1 on my Asus RT-68U Running merlin firmware version 380.57 gets consistently pinned at 100% and CPU 2 bounces between 30% and 60% during downloads. During this time my download speed rarely reaches it's maximum and usually hovers around 30MB\s (should be closer to 50MB\s). I've also noticed that internet browsing becomes sluggish when downloads are running that are allowed to use all the bandwidth.

My question is: Have I reached the upper limit of my router\Is my router my new bottleneck? If yes, can anyone recommend a new router that would work reliably with my connection?
