Choosing, a Fuse & Wire for Car Sub and Amp help!

Xplod2064

Hello all, I don't know if this topic is suited for this forum but I am not sure where else I can post this.

So I kinda got an idea on what I need..

I have the sub and amp already, it is the fuse for the wire and what size wire I need.

1x Sub is 1300W RMS 4ohm DVC which can be wired in 2 ohms.

1x Amp is 1875W RMS at 2 ohms.

*Distance of wire needed from battery to back is around 4.5M (15ft).

*What I am unsure is how much current they draw, then in which size wire I need?

*I was thinking more along the lines of 2 gauge, for the fuse I have no idea as I am trying to figure the maths part out for the current.

Any help is appreciated!!

As car audio stuff is ran on 12 Volts, then we can do the maths pretty easy.

At peak power output the amp will output 3,750 watts.

3,750 watts divided by the voltage (12v) =

3,750 / 12 = 312.5 Amps.

But the amplifier will not be outputting peak power as it would blow the subwoofers voice coil very quickly.

So, the sub mathematics -

2600W peak divided by voltage (12v)

2600 / 12 = 126.6 amps.

So you would need wire rated for 130-140 amps to give some headroom, looking at this chart, you would need 2 Gauge (AWG)

Main speaker setup is now;

Mini DSP SHD Studio -> 2x Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC's (fed by AES/EBU, one feeds the left sub and main, the other feeds the right side) -> 2x Neumann KH420 + 2x Neumann KH870

(Having a totally seperate DAC for each channel is game changing for sound quality)
