"Seven Year Old Handcuffed Over Lunch Money Dispute"

DudeWazap

It was to a post? Haha. Well that's just wrong. Technically a suspect shouldn't be cuffed to anything. I'm surprised the cuffs even stayed on, to be honest.

If they questioned the child without asking if they'd like a parent present, they childs Miranda rights were ignored. The police force deserves to be punished, or at the very least the officers involved.

Yes I agree. Consultation with the parent and the staff members like the Headmaster/ dunno what term is used in the US but the important person who runs the school should've been present with the officer with a teacher too.

Please become a member of the Linus Tech Tips forum, keep writing smug remarks & let us love you. Peace out.

You'd most likely see both take place. The police force would rather settle outside of court for an undisclosed sum.

It does make sense, as the police force will take strong action against its members to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Unless NY is like Canada where police can tazer a guy to death and get away virtually scar free.

I'd love to see some intelligent debate over this and not just slander like that.

There are a lot of variables when using an electroshock device. In that situation the could have jumped him.

I can't recall correctly, but I think he might have had a box cutter. In which case a tazer is the correct course.

Unless of course you'd rather he be shot?

Yes they could have jumped him but they instead tasered him multiple times, and he did not have a weapon he just lost and din't speak English. Despite making a bad decision they haven't really been punished but apparently there will be trial for 2 of the officers, but the internal investigations said they didn't do anything wrong.

And what kind of "logical" debate would like to have? I wrote a large opinion one the first page on the topic of the boy being handcuffed. I also agree with you that it will be settled out of court.

why is everybody getting worked up over the $250M charge?

Sure that is excessive but seriously, police f***ing arresting & interrogating a KID without any evidence is just f***ed up.

All I have to say is...

GO 'MURICA!

Guns, Eagles, Oil and sh1t. Protecting the world by invading & spying on countries!

Mistakes happen, and while it was unfortunate police officers are just people like everyone else. You can't expect them to be perfect, or make the perfect decisions 100% of the time. In a perfect world, yes, but that's not what we live in.

The RCMP as a whole was punished. They paid an out of court settlement. I'm pretty sure the officers involved had to go through some retraining. Better than nothing.

I just didn't want to see the thread turn into a "police suck!" or "the US is corrupt!" or something of that nature.

It was... a joke... did you think I was serious?

Hey mate! I think the best way to show sarcasm on here is to use an emoticons like, for example, this :P. That would help imply that you weren't being serious.

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.

I don't expect people to be perfect, however if you represent the law and you do something like interrogate a 7 year for 10 hrs or taser a foreigner multiple and that foreigner dies as the law your actions should be scrutinised. And okay the RCMP officers received retraining but were talking about manslaughter, by not one but 4 people who happened to be police.

I don't think anyone wants this to turn into a topic full of "Muricas" and "F the police".
