PiHoles block content at a DNS level, but the forum advertisements are hosted directly on the forum so you can't block them at a DNS level (without blocking the whole of LTT, which is maybe slightly overkill).

There's no way to have separate ads for the light and dark themes, which makes it tough to fix properly. I also have no control over that sort of stuff, but I will pass it on to the team.

The bright-orange Linus Tech Tips Cafe Vanilla advertisement is way too distracting. And I can't even use an adblocker in iOS.

Just take a look at this:

It hurts my eyes. Please change the picture to something less bright/distracting. Thanks!

I, uh, think that's kinda the point? Advertisements are designed to capture your attention, and apparently it's working. If you don't like it, you should really just use adblock.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

PSA: Posting a PCPartPicker list with no explanation isn't helpful for first-time builders :)

Ah. I see. I've always found browsing the forums on mobile to be a bit of an ordeal anyways, so it completely went over my head. It is surprising that Apple hasn't implemented any sort of adblock functionality, but I guess that's to do their partners a favor. In that case, the only thing you can really do is switch to light mode, and try not to fry your retinas. It would be cool if they implemented dark-theme ads though. It would allow them to keep the one they already have, and the color correction would just be 5 minutes in PS.

I browse the LTT forums more often on my iPad than my PC, so this is quite an issue for me.

Light theme is too painful.

That's what I'm thinking. Perhaps an ad with a darker (grey or black) background.

First people complain about the bar just under the being too distracting and now the ad itself? It's not even worst ad the site has had. Amazon and Newegg ones (and the Dis-whatever) are all white themed. I don't think it's that distractive and I have visual disability. You people with (probably) normal eyesight are way too sensitive about such things.

If you want actual bad UI/UX, go to FP site. With their grey text on white background, non-existent buffers and non-selectable text.

The adspace in that screenshot takes up no more than 14% of the entire page, you're just being a bit sensitive.

I said that I find the advertisement distracting and that it hurts my eyes. It doesn't matter if it only covers 14% of the page.

True, i have 0 issues with the ads.. this website is the only site i dont use ad blocker on as i believe LTT deserves the revenue from them. They arent distracting at all, and they go away as soon as you scroll down.

LTT's Resident Porsche fanboy and nutjob Audiophile.

Main speaker setup is now;

Mini DSP SHD Studio -> 2x Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC's (fed by AES/EBU, one feeds the left sub and main, the other feeds the right side) -> 2x Neumann KH420 + 2x Neumann KH870

(Having a totally seperate DAC for each channel is game changing for sound quality)

There's no way to have separate ads for the light and dark themes, which makes it tough to fix properly. I also have no control over that sort of stuff, but I will pass it on to the team.

PiHole can do specific whitelisting and blacklisting for sites to allow content through. You can also use it to filter specific content on a site if you know what the context is for linking.

Personally I don't use adblock on the forum because I want to support what LMG does, but there are sites with obnoxious autoplay videos (I'm looking at you, C-Net) that I will filter out entirely.

If you're smart, youtube and twitch ads can also be blocked. I haven't successfully done this without breaking other aspects of the websites though.

Also, Adblock on mobile is a thing through certain browsers or apps.
