Wait so you don't know who uses the technology you are studying? The only thing I know are radio frequencies. Also check what @rice guru linked, it may be helpful.

2.4Ghz is free to use and can go that distance with the right gear.

AM/FM transmitter is another way but like many other radio spectrum's (5Ghz, 900Mhz) probably requires a licence (so the airwaves aren't polluted with all sorts of garbage that interferes with others and means nothing would be usable)
