Hello Linus and all staff members.

 

So here, I often watch your channel and unfortunately I do not speak very well the American language, so I wondered if by chance one day it was planned that you subtitle in French your episodes of YouTube?

 

I know you understand a little French, so I copy the message in English and French ^^

Alors voilà, je regarde souvent votre chaîne et malheureusement je ne maîtrise pas très bien la langue américaine, alors je me demandais si par hasard un jour il était prévu que tu sous-titre en Francais tes épisodes de YouTube ?

 

Je sais que tu comprend un petit peu le Francais alors je copie le message en Francais et en anglais ^^

They'll have to hire a person to do it. They already to Chinese translation so half the work is kind of done. It's still a lot of work... maybe they can make a Patreon campaign and enough people donate monthly...

It would be quite hard in BC though.... although the Canadian government mandates the use of both French and English, in reality nearly no one speaks it fluently on the west coast.

No one wants to take French in high school lol, especially in BC. So there just aren't many fluent French-speakers.

I hope they will do the necessary, I am sure they could find an audience in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, and also in some Middle Eastern countries such as Algeria, Morocco, and some African countries .... (many countries speak French in Europe and outside Europe) obviously not as many people as for Chinese, but it is still a few million people ^^


Then I already really like the energy that emerges from the program without understanding everything ... in France, we obviously have youtuber who talk about computer science and technology, but absolutely none can be as versatile and complete than Linus's chain ^^

This has been requested few times. And answer is that translating is really, really expensive. I think Nick Light said that they aren't keen to release scripts or allow other ways for community to contribute in order to keep quality in control.

 

And lets be honest, if we were to translate LMG videos to any other language besides English and Chinese, French isn't in top list. Spanish would be higher, Arabic even more, maybe Russian too. So as proper European, learn another language if you haven't already.

I understand your request, but I also think it would be a lot of work with only a very small percentage of the viewers profiting from it. 

I know that there are many people in the world who speak French (I do too by the way), but I guess most of those people also understand English well enough to follow LTT's videos. I know that many French people don't find learning and speaking English to be as easy as one might think, but it is still perfectly possible and more important/useful than ever.

J'imagine que c'est une possibilité, mais ça devra être fait par des volontaires. Ils font les sous-titre pour la Chine, par contre si je me souvient bien, ça à commencé avec des fans de LTT qui le faisait eux-même.
