Asus ROG GT-AC5300 vs Netgear AD7200-Nighthawk Pro

rf9661

I have a 1 Gbps Fiber line into my home and currently have the Asus ROG GT-AC5300. LinusTechTips just released a video featuring the Netgear AD7200-Nighthawk Pro.

Which one do you think is better?

The Netgear model supports 802.11AD but last I checked there are very few to no client devices that use AD. Plus AD relies on 60 GHz so it has no penetration power at all. Meaning it’s a one room solution at best. Save your money. If you want to upgrade I’d wait for more 802.11AX(WiFi 6) routers to be released. WiFi 6 is basically an upgraded AC router. Should support faster speeds and such.

Now now for the second half of this. What’s important with Gigabit is that your router can handle those speeds. You need to check the WAN to LAN throughput. Small net builder is the best place to find these stats. To be honest this is such an issue for some they build their own router.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
