making internet speeds faster

Cabre_01

I have no clue about networking whatsoever so i dont know where to start. i'm thinking of upgrading the modem. its modem/router combo i think and it was free 5 or 6 years ago when my parents got whatever package they got with the provider. and no way in hell would they go for a different provider or package (about 10 years ago they tried doing that and didnt work out so well and they dont want to fuss about about again).  as some of ye that are irish might know, not every place here especially rural areas, do not have fibre cables and naturally i live on a farm where, you guessed it, has no fibre. tried going the satellite route but a couple of trees wouldve had to be knocked down and my parents were against that. so we are still living in the dark ages of landline. i'm not joking btw. i also live in an old farm house where the wires i guess have been worn out completely so that might be affecting internet speeds around the house. results below are from my bedroom which is about 10-15ft from where the modem is situated. that ping gets worse whenever i'm in csgo, i have to wait til night time to play to have the game be playable (100ms is the average i get at night as everyone else in the house is asleep). pc is wired up through a power line adapter as well. there is also a wifi booster in the kitchen as it at the opposite side of the house from the modem. also theres a couple of consoles and you have your few phones that be connected up but i dont know why they are not using data, its much faster.

now that all of the factors are out of the way, time to talk upgrades. how would i go about increasing internet speeds? because my parents are stubborn and all they use the internet for is looking at the newspapers and donedeal (irish craigs list) on their tablet, no way in hell would the change internet provider or get a different package. me, my older and younger brothers been after them for years about it but nothing. so i'm thinking maybe a new modem and router but i dont know how much of a help that would be especially when i want to keep it as cheap as possible and as user friendly as possible as i have no clue at whats going on with networking and i dont want to literally break the internet in the house

i dont if its either 6Mb or MB ps but i think its the mb. i have a sneaky suspicion that ip would want to be changed. but just downloading anything or streaming things is just painful. for yt, it defaults to 720p but a good amount of time i have to drop to 480p to stop buffering

You wont be able to get over what your package, is if you want anything higher than what you currently have you will have to upgrade to a better package.

i remember at the time when the parents got that package, a specialist came in, checked a few things and recommended that package stating "its not like you are going to reach that speed" and parents took it hook, line and sinker. well soon after i bought my ps4, parents got their tablet, and then my pc shows up with another ps4 and xbox (my 2 brothers) well you can guess we reached that speed pretty quick.

its just getting annoying now trying to download an update of lets say 6gb and it takes 4 or 5 hours to download on a good day. i remember it took a full week to download battlefield 4 on my ps4 when i got it.

anyways worth the try, just getting tired of it thats all

Honestly if you can, try offering to pay for a better package yourself. I did that with my parents when I lived with them, it was the only way they would upgrade it.

never thought of that. i'll try and figure something out as cash is an issue. problem with working at home and all you see is a dinner on the table, clothes on your back and roof over your head. nothing wrong there with that but barely any cash i see myself. again i'll figure something out
