9900k on a z370 board ?

Who would a 9900k be on my asus Maximus hero x

 

it runs my 8700k at 5ghz 1.32v solid as a rock 

 

if I upgrade in the future how would it do on my board as it’s not a 390 board

It will struggle, VRM's will run hot for sure. Do not even think about overclocking. Coffee Lake+ chips like the 9900k are very power hungry due to Intel continuing to push the limits of the 14nm process while continually delaying 10nm

 

Your board is B tier on the motherboard tier list. This means it is on the very bottom of the barrel for what a 9th gen chip can safely run on. You can do it, but run a stress test and watch VRM temps with HW Info.

It would be fine.  9900K doesn't NEED a Z390 board, even to OC well.

 

With a decent case and airflow, the VRMs will be fine.  Try it and if it doesn't work well, buy a Z390 board.

i have the same setup as you but i'm pushing more voltage through my CPU (8700k) and the VRM's stay below 50, i feel like a 9900k is going to work fine.

VRM's will only get that hot when running power viruses like Prime95.  You don't need to run prime95 to enjoy a PC.

That sounds off to me. You can overclock an i9-9900k on a Maximus XI Hero and there’s plenty of motherboard reviews demonstrating that. It’s going to be hotter and than a cheaper Gigabyte board which is another problem entirely, but you can do it. I don’t think there would be VRM throttling. I’m on the road atm and not especially familiar with Maximus X Hero’s VRMs, but if their efficiency is similar to the XI Hero I don’t see why it would be a problem.

Its the best board u could get for a 8700k

It's best to get a good Z390 MB.

 

Unless you have a very high end Z370 MB Like the AORUS Z370 Gaming 7 and even then I wouldn't recommend it.

The 8700K is not a 9900K.

 

The 9900K can pull some serious wattage, well over 200W.

So ASUS Maximus hero which has same vrm as code and apex is not high end board

Can someone explain why my board would be worse than a z390 Maximus hero because my board has a better 8phase vrm and the z390 has a 4phase 

so if my board has a better vrm than the 390 board I’m good to go right ?
